    The Glenfiddich Distillery Festive Tribute To The Angels Share
    It appears that the festive season brings out the artistic side of the workers at the Glenfiddich distillery, last Christmas the Glenfiddich workers created a Christmas tree which they made using 665 of the single malt’s unique triangular green bottles. This year the artistic bunch at the Glenfiddich Distillery have made a festive tribute to the ‘angel’s share’, the whisky lost each year due to evaporation.

    Scottish Designer of the Year Gives Ardbeg Sampling Team A New Look
    Scottish fashion designer Judy R Clark has unveiled a new range of tweed clothing for Islay single malt whisky, Ardbeg. The new range of clothing will be used as uniforms for Ardbeg trial and sampling teams around the world at whisky events.

    The Scotch Whisky Association is calling for Chancellor George Osborne to scrap the unfair alcohol duty escalator which is damaging the Scotch Whisky industry in its domestic market and punishing hard-pressed consumers, namely the users of this website.

    New Friends of the Classic Malts Limited Edition Series
    Diageo have announced a new series of limited edition single malt Scotch Whiskies available exclusively to the Friends of the Classic Malts. This December 2013 sees the first two of the five limited edition whiskies released, from Royal Lochnagar and Talisker.

    Master Blender Colin Scott Celebrates 40 Years In The Whisky Industry
    Chivas Brothers Master Blender Colin Scott is celebrating 40 years in the whisky industry. Colin who is responsible for creating a number of luxury blended whiskies over the past 40 years such as the premium blended whiskies Chivas Regal 18 Year Old and Chivas Regal 25 Year Old, as well as the growth of the Royal Salute range.

    The Girvan Patent Still Single Grain
    William Grant has broke away from whisky conventions and released The Girvan Patent Still Single Grain 25 Year Old the first in a new core range of single grain whiskies from the Girvan distillery which will be exclusively available only in the UK. So is grain whisky the neutral spirit many whisky drinkers think it to be, this is what I thought of the new whisky.

    The Guardians’ Of The Glenlivet Express Their Taste For The Exotic
    Following a global campaign by The Glenlivet which has seen thousands of whisky fans casting their votes to select a new limited edition from The Glenlivet, the results have finally been revealed. It appears that the majority of the voters had a preference for the Exotic expression which picked up 39% of the vote.

    London's First Whisky Company In Over 100 Years Goes Into Production
    The London Distillery Company has been granted London’s first licence to produce single malt whisky in over a century and today saw its first spirit flow from the still making the boutique distillery the first whisky distillery in London in over 100 years.

    Douglas Laing Release 2013 RAF Charity Braeval Bottling
    The generous team at Douglas Laing and Co, have launched their annual charity bottling, this year under their Clan Denny label they have bottled a Braeval 12 Years Old Single Sherry Cask with all profits from the sale of the special limited edition bottling going to the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund.

    Ardbeg’s Mickey Heads has been named Icons of Whisky Awards Distillery Manager of the Year 2013.
    Mickey scooped the Scottish Distillery Manager of the Year accolade and received recognition for providing consistently excellent Ardbeg whisky.

    GlenDronach has today released Batch 9 of its single cask bottlings, selected as always by Master Blender Billy Walker. The 9 new single cask bottlings range from 18 up to 41 years old, all of which I am told share GlenDronach's typically richly-sherried signature taste.

    The Glenlivet Alpha, the latest whisky from The Glenlivet which has been launched in a very unique way. Launched without cask information, age or tasting notes, all we know is it was bottled at 50% ABV. I was lucky enough to taste it last night and this is what I thought of it.

    The Macallan 1824 Series
    The Macallan 1824 Series, is a new range of whiskies from The Macallan. The expressions in the new series are The Macallan Gold, The Macallan Amber, The Macallan Sienna and The Macallan Ruby. All four of the whiskies in the new Macallan 1824 Series were 100% sherry cask matured and showcase two of The Macallan whisky's greatest strengths; oak sherry casks and natural colour. This is what I think of the four new whiskies.

    Ardbeg Distillery Names Latest Whisky Ardbog
    Ardbeg Distillery has named its latest whisky Ardbog and the launch will take place at Islay Festival on “Ardbog Day” – 1st June 2013.
    Ardbog was matured for ten years in traditional American oak ex-bourbon barrels and rare ex-Spanish Manzanilla sherry butts. This gives Ardbog a distinctively salty texture accentuating the salty, briny flavours already prevalent in the whisky.

This first release of Kilchoman Loch Gorm in the series is a 5 year old whisky which has been matured in Oloroso sherry butts and finished in Oloroso sherry hogsheads for a further six weeks. After tasting it, I predict this will be a very popular expression when it comes of age.

    It is very rare to see a new addition to the Talisker core range but let me introduce you to the 2nd new addition to the range this year. The Talisker Port Ruighe is a combination of spirit that has been matured in American Oak and European Oak refill casks in the traditional manner along with spirit that has been filled into specially conditioned deeply charred casks. The spirit is has then been finished in casks that have previously held Port Wine which endows it with spicy fruit notes.

    The individual casks, which were laid down between 1991 and 1999 have been bottled exclusively for whisky specialist shops in Ireland, France, Germany and the UK with each retailer offering their customers between one and three expressions which will be exclusive to the shop.
