Have you
voted yet for your choice of whisky to
be bottled as The Glenlivet Guardians’
Chapter whisky? If not and you haven't
had a chance to taste the three
contenders then you may be interested in
my review of the three possible whiskies
which are competing to be chosen.

As
the Glenlivet whisky fans amongst you
will probably know by now The
Glenlivet has invited its global community of
whisky fans, The Guardians of The
Glenlivet, to select its next
limited edition release, The Glenlivet
Guardians’ Chapter.
Master Distiller Alan Winchester has
created three exciting new single malt whiskies
from the Glenlivet distillery’s
exceptional cask collection and
has classified the three whiskies by their taste:
Classic – 48.7% ABV – non chill filtered
Notes of honey and caramel are able to
be tasted due to the Spanish and
American oak casks.
Exotic – 48.7% ABV – non chill filtered
A darker and deeper flavour is developed
from the use of sherry casks.
Revival – 48.7% ABV – non chill filtered
The refill bourbon casks deliver hints
of vanilla, fresh fruit and crème brûlée.
In
recent months The Glenlivet has been
touring the world showcasing the whiskies at tasting events and giving
Glenlivet fans the chance to sample all
three whiskies and select the expression
which they want to become The Glenlivet
Guardians’ Chapter. The Glenlivet have
visited Australia, USA, UK, Canada, India, South Africa
and Japan to name but a few but the time is
now fast approaching for the final
tasting event and for the votes to be
counted.
The voting as it stands at the moment
has the darker and deeper flavoured
Glenlivet Guardians Chapter Exotic in
the lead with 39% of the votes closely
followed by the honey and caramel
flavoured Classic and in third palce and
possibly out of the running at this
stage is the vanilla, fresh fruity and
crème brûlée flavoured Revival.
Following the final tasting event this
month, the Guardians’ votes will be
counted on December 11th and the winning whisky will be
proclaimed "The Guardians’ Chapter”. A
limited run of 2000 9 litre cases will
be released globally from February 2014.
For those of you who haven't yet cast
your vote and haven't had the chance to
taste the three whiskies I thought I
would add my opinion of the three
whiskies. You don't need to have tasted
the three whiskies to vote you can
simply vote for the whisky which appeals
to you most. To vote simply head over to
The Glenlivet website, you will need to
register (its free) to be able to vote.

Revival Tasting
Notes
|
William
Morrison's Tasting Notes:
Ex American and Sherry oak barrels,
48.5% ABV
Nose:
The nose is a delicate mix of honey and
vanilla mingling with the Glenlivet's
lovely pear note. Some richer more
exotic ripe fruity notes in the
background.
Taste:
Smooth creamy mouthfeel with some lovely
fruit, pear, pineapple and some
delicious sweet vanilla oak spices.
Finish:
A medium length finish with a touch of
lemon, honey and sweet vanilla oak
spices.
Comment:
A lovely expression of the Glenlivet but
it is in some very good company
tonight and my 3rd choice of the 3
whiskies.

Classic Tasting
Notes

William
Morrison's Tasting Notes:
Ex American and Sherry oak barrels,
48.5% ABV
Nose:
A lovely balance of rich fruit and
vanilla. Deliciously inviting vanilla
tablet and almost concentrated mild
sherried fruit. A touch of orange zest
and a hint of the Glenlivet pear in the
background.
Taste:
A burst of raisins, red apples, creamy
vanilla toffee reminding us of the oak
it has spent years maturing in followed
by orange zest, dark chocolate, honey
all lightly coated in delicious spices.
Finish:
Juicy tangy fruit. Cocoa, vanilla,
fudge. A touch drying slowly fading mild sherry oak.
Comment:
It was a close call but this is my runner
up. Well named, a classic Glenlivet
indeed, a lovely balance of vanilla and
sherry.

The Glenlivet Guardians Chapter
Exotic Tasting
Notes

William
Morrison's Tasting Notes:
Ex American and Sherry oak barrels,
48.5% ABV
Nose:
Burnt sugar, raisin and fruitcake,
toasty vanilla, toffee.
Taste:
Rich, full bodied. Burnt raisins,
orange, pear, fresh apples, toffee,
nutmeg a touch of cinnamon and
dry ginger dusted with a gentle sweet
vanilla oak spice.
Finish:
A deliciously long rich lingering dark
sherried mildly drying finish. Some
spicy oaky notes.
Comment:
If I was to choose a whisky out of the
three, this would be it, lovely big
fruitcake notes as you would expect
given the use of ex-Oloroso sherry butts
in the creation of the Exotic and these
have obviously been quality sherry butts
that have been used. A very very close
call for me between the Exotic and the
Classic but my choice tonight is for the
Exotic. Definitely my winner, I want a
whole bottle of this.
Just a thought, why cant they release
all three bottles!
