Whisky Focus - Old Pulteney Noss Head Review

Old Pulteney Noss Head

28th June 2013
Old Pulteney Noss Head new travel retail exclusive.

Noss Head is one of three new bottlings from Old Pulteney in their Old Pulteney Lighthouse Series which is exclusive to travel retail.

Old Pulteney Noss Head comes with a vibrant blue label and tube, the design features an image of the Noss Head lighthouse which the whisky is inspired by. Built in 1849 by Robert Arnot and named after the Old Norse word ‘Snos’, the lighthouse represents the nose-shaped headland where it is situated.

Matured in American Oak ex bourbon casks the malt inside has a full bodied, sweet and spicy taste with hints of coconut, lemons and oranges and a long-lasting finish. Bottled at 46% ABV, with a RRP of £39.99

William Morrison's Tasting Notes:

Nose: Vanilla icing sugar, coconut, sugar almonds, creamy butter tablet, lemon.

Taste: Demerara sugar, vanilla, candied lemon meringue, cherry, touch of orange zest, coconut, touch  of oak spice.

Finish: Sweet, vanilla, lemon, coconut, mild slowly fading spice.

Comment: A refreshingly sweet dram, no age statement but I wouldn't say this is a young whisky at all. It has a deliciously sweet candied fruitiness. Reminds me very much of the outstanding Old Pulteney WK499 Isabella Fortuna so if you liked that you will love this.

SMW Score 92/100
