    Tasted the Glenfiddich Fire & Cane Experimental Series No 4 which was launched earlier this year, the smoke is gentle but hangs in there from start to finish, it does become a little bolder with each mouthful and compliments the candied fruit and sweet toffee well to make for, and most importantly, a very enjoyable dram.

    Rare Whisky 101 Expose The Extent Of Fake Whisky
    In recent tests commissioned by 'Rare Whisky 101', a whisky valuation service, brokerage and consultancy for whisky connoisseurs, it was found that from 55 bottles of Scotch whisky that were acquired by RW101 from different sources through the secondary market, 21 were confirmed as either outright fakes or whiskies not distilled in the year declared.

    Edinburgh Airport and Edinburgh Trams joined F1’s Mika Häkkinen on Friday 7th December to urge Scots to #JOINTHEPACT and pledge to never drink and drive.
    The two-times F1 World Drivers’ Champion also brought the Johnnie Walker Caparo T1 supercar to the Airport as part of a series of events in Edinburgh to promote the #JOINTHEPACT Never Drink and Drive campaign over the festive season.

    The Isle of Arran distillery has unveiled there latest and oldest expression of single malt whisky to join its core range to date, the Arran 21 Year Old, matured in a combination of of ex-Bourbon and ex-Sherry casks before being bottled at 46% ABV, non chill-filtered and natural colour.

    Those of you who have had the pleasure of attending premium whisky events and tastings will have no doubt come across dedicated whisky brand ambassadors for many of the whisky brands available but strangely Diageo who owns 28 Scotch malt whisky distilleries has very few ambassadors dedicated to just one of their whisky brands so it is good news to hear that Diageo Reserve has appointed Jason Clark as the new Brand Ambassador for its premium Scotch whisky, Talisker.

    Ailsa Bay Release 1.2 Sweet Smoke Review
    Ailsa Bay Release 1.2 Sweet Smoke is a new whisky from William Grant & Sons, it follows and replaces the inaugural release of Ailsa Bay launched back in early 2016. I loved the inaugural release from Ailsa Bay and this 1.2 is every bit as good, with a delicious smooth delivery of clean sweet peat and creamy vanilla, I would say that it has an extra maturity about it which has simply added to the pleasure.

    The Balvenie has unveiled the fourth chapter of its DCS Compendium series of single cask whiskies and the theme of this years series is 'Expecting The Unexpected'. The Balvenie 1971 47 Year Old is the oldest expression in the Chapter 4 line-up, with the most unexpected in the line-up being a peaty Balvenie 2009 9 Year Old.

    North British 58 Year Old 1960 Incorporation Edition
    The North British Distillery which was incorporated on this very day, October 24th, in 1885, has joined forces with Scotch Whisky specialist Douglas Laing & Co to release a one-off 58 year old limited edition of only 222 bottles, distilled in July 1960. This 1960 vintage limited edition is the first commercial bottling from the distillery since its incorporation in 1885.

    I know the price tag of £86 for the Redbreast 12 year old Cask Strength can put some people off trying it but I can tell you it is a seriously good Irish single pot still whiskey and well worth trying and you don't need to take my word for it as Jim Murray has just named the Redbreast 12 Year Old Cask Strength Batch B1/17 his Whisky Bible 2019 Best Irish Whiskey, scoring it with an impressive 97 out of 100 points.

    Two Scottish control systems companies, Elite Control Systems and Asset Guardian Solutions Ltd of Livingston, Scotland who normally provide systems integration and engineering support services and who recently provided a fully operational process control system for the new Macallan distillery have teamed up to help raise at least £1,000 for the Scottish Association for Mental Health to support its ongoing efforts to provide critical mental health support services, and reduce the rising rate of suicide. They are close to raising their target figure but need just a little more help.

    Mortlach has launched a new whisky range comprising of a 12, 16 and 20 year old expression after whisky drinkers had turned their back on the previous range which had been bottled in 50cl bottles and whisky drinkers had considered overpriced. The new Mortlach range will be presented in 70cl bottles and at least for the 12 and 16 year old at an accessible price for most.

    Whisky Fuelling Tourism Growth In Moray and Speyside
    The latest figures from Moray Speyside Tourism suggest that whisky is continuing to help fuel tourism in the region. The figures suggest that the economic impact of tourism rose by a massive £11 million in 2017, with an extra 50,000 visitors compared to the previous year thanks to a combination of Whisky, the TV series Outlander and growing awareness of the beauty of the Moray coast.

    All seven whiskies entered by the Scotch Malt Whisky Society in the San Francisco World Spirits Competition 2018 won double gold medals.
    Their gold haul included Cask No. 29.224 We arrived! (from the Laphroaig Distillery) being awarded a double gold medal and ‘Best in show’, beating approximately 1000 whiskies entered into the competition.

    Cotswolds Distillery Named Craft Producer Of The Year
    The Cotswolds Distillery which only launched its first ever single malt whisky, the limited edition Cotswolds Single Malt Whisky Inaugural Release, late last year has begun its first full year of whisky sales with a ground-breaking win in the annual Icons of Whisky Awards. The distillery, which only began production in September 2014, has been named ‘Craft Producer of the Year’ in the awards’ ‘Rest of World’ category.

    This week we see the world’s largest known selection of rare and collectable Corti Brothers whiskies go under the hammer in an online auction currently being held by Perth based Whisky Auctioneer. Amongst the lots on offer are a bottle of Highland Park 1963, Jura 1966, Springbank 1958, Bowmore 1964 and arguably the most sought after of all, a very rare 1965 Clynelish.

    Black Bowmore Fetches £11,900 At Auction
    Those of you that were lucky enough to buy a bottle of Black Bowmore 1964 2nd release from Oddbins for £93 back in 1994 when it was first released and then drunk it may just want to stop reading now as a bottle of the Black Bowmore 1964 30 Year Old 2nd Edition has just sold at auction for £11,900. I bought 2 bottles when it was first released which have long since past by my tonsils.
