    Change at the top for William Grant & Sons as CEO Stella David has decided to step down at the end of February 2016, Stella will be succeeded by current Chief Commercial Officer, Simon Hunt.

    Gordon & MacPhail ‘The Wood Makes the Whisky’

    Gordon & MacPhail Rare Vintage Glen Grant 1954 was matured in 1st Fill Sherry Casks. I have had the pleasure of a few very mature outstanding G & M bottlings over the years and this is right up there with them in quality.

    Gordon & MacPhail Connoisseurs Choice Speyburn 1991 Review
    Gordon & MacPhail Connoisseurs Choice Speyburn 1991 was matured in Refill Sherry Hogshead casks. I didn't expect the glorious fizzy spices and pepper, no doubt a contribution made by the casks used for maturation. Not as sugar laden as the Glenlivet Nadurra but reminds me of the Glenlivet it in some ways.

    Gordon & MacPhail Distillery Labels Ardmore 1996 was matured in Refill Sherry Hogshead casks. Exactly what an independent bottling should be, off the beaten track of the original distillery bottlings, still displaying the Ardmore DNA but with added influence from the choice of wood the whisky has matured in.

    The MacPhail's Collection Bunnahabhain 8 Years Old Review
    The MacPhail's Collection Bunnahabhain 8 Years Old from Gordon & MacPhail was matured in Refill Sherry Butts. A long time favourite of mine, in my opinion a young Bunnahabhain is best served peated and the MacPhail's Collection serves a cracking extremely enjoyable Bunnahabhain 8 year old.

    Lucky 13 For BenRiach Distillery Company At Malt Maniacs Awards
    BenRiach, GlenDronach and Glenglassaugh single malts have won a total of thirteen medals in the 2015 Malt Maniacs Awards. The Edinburgh-headquartered company headed by industry veteran Billy Walker took six silver and seven bronze medals in this year’s competition. Here is the complete list of winners.

    Glenglassaugh has released Batch 2 of  its critically acclaimed Glenglassaugh Rare Cask single cask bottlings. This second batch is made up of eight single cask treasures. There are certainly no youngsters amongst this second batch, the eight new single cask whiskies vary in age from a 36 year old to a very rare 42 year old.

    Since launching back in 2000 the Compass Box Whisky Company have always aimed to experiment, to innovate and to explore.     This Christmas Diageo have released a special 1 litre edition of of Haig Club, the the smooth, easy drinking Single Grain Scotch Whisky 1 litre bottle will be available exclusively in travel retail where over the holiday season gifting spend reaches over $1bn on spirits alone. Of this, whisky occupies the top spot with 44% of travellers.

    Glenfiddich Distillery Expansion To Meet Global Demand
    Glenfiddich has announced multi-million pound expansion plans to increase the capacity of its distillery in Speyside, Scotland. Their are plans for a new still house, tun rooms, external storage tanks and equipment as well as some landscaping features.

    Glenmorangie 12 Year Old Single Cask HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco
    Glenmorangie has just announced a very exclusive collaboration with His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco, the Prince has selected a single malt that will bear his name. The rare, single-cask whisky, bottled in his honour, will be sold to raise funds for environmental conservation, a cause dear to the Prince and echoed by Glenmorangie.

    Aberfeldy 16 Year Old Review
    John Dewar's & Sons has revealed the latest addition to its Aberfeldy core range of whiskies, the Aberfeldy 16 year old. The new whisky has been finished in Oloroso sherry casks and bottled at 40% ABV. This is what I thought of it.

    Chivas Regal has commenced the search for the 2016 Global Chivas Master, where competitors this year will be judged not only on their bartending abilities but also on their demonstration of Chivas’ values of brotherhood and generosity. This month sees national heats start around the world, which will for the first time culminate with the grand final in Shanghai in July 2016.

    The Glenrothes Single Cask 1969 #11483
    The Glenrothes distillery are set to release The Glenrothes Single Cask 1969 #11483, the fourth release in the Glenrothes Extraordinary Cask Series. To complement the 1969 Vintage and to demonstrate a link back to the year the whisky was created The Glenrothes introduced a new tasting platform, The Vintage Vinyl Sessions.

    Being a long time fan of the outstanding Ballantine's 21 year old I was pleased when Ballantine’s contacted me to announce the release of Ballantine’s 21 Year Old Signature Oak Edition - European Oak, which is the first of two new limited editions exclusive to Global Travel Retail.     GlenDronach 19 Years Old Madeira Cask Finish
    GlenDronach tell me that their new GlenDronach 19 Years Old Madeira Cask Finish is a dram bursting with ripe summer fruits and warm spices. Bottled at 46%, non chill filtered and with natural colour, the GlenDronach 19 Years Old Madeira Cask Finish was initially matured in European oak casks and thereafter finished its maturation in a very small batch of superior Madeira hogsheads.

    Diageo Special Releases 2015
    As most whisky enthusiasts and collectors will know by now every year Diageo release a small number of specially selected whiskies from its vast portfolio of Scotch malt whisky distilleries. This autumn they have selected nine whiskies which will make up its Diageo 2015 Special Releases. The oldest whisky in this years release is is the Brora 37 Year Old and as we have come to expect there is a new expression of the Lagavulin 12 Year Old.

    Glengoyne Continues Support For London Scottish
    Glengoyne today announced that they have renewed their support for London Scottish for for a third year with another 12-month sponsorship deal.     The Macallan Rare Cask Black
    The Macallan Rare Cask Black joins the Macallan 1824 Masters Series, intriguingly the distillery describe it as being a dark, smoky and unexpected Macallan. The Macallan are not known for producing smoky whiskies and the reason this whisky is smoky is that it has been crafted predominately using First Fill sherry seasoned oak casks which contained extremely rare Macallan peated whisky.

    This Monday 5th October Kilchoman are releasing the Kilchoman Madeira Cask Matured, which is a bit of the normal beaten track for the Islay distillery as the limited edition whisky has been fully matured in first fill Madeira wine casks rather than just being finished in the casks.

    The Glenlivet Nadurra Peated Whisky Cask Finish
    The Glenlivet today announced another new permanent addition to their popular Glenlivet Nadurra range, The Glenlivet Nadurra Peated Whisky Cask Finish. As you will probably guess from the new expressions title it has been finished in casks which has previously held peated whisky, to be more precise American oak casks that have previously held heavily-peated Scotch whisky.

    GlenDronach Single Cask Batch 12
    GlenDronach has today released Batch 12 of its popular single cask bottlings series, selected as always by Master Blender Billy Walker. GlenDronach Single Cask Batch 12 is a release of nine whiskies ranging from a 2004 11 year old up to the rarest bottling in this release, a 1972 distilled 43 year old. All nine bottlings have been matured in Pedro Ximenez sherry casks from Southern Spain.

    Second Great Northern Distillery Goes Into Production
    You will recall back in August when I announced that a 30 million bottle a year capacity three-column still Irish grain whiskey distillery, the first of two distillery's to be built on the former Harp Brewery site in Dundalk, Co. Louth, Ireland had gone into production, well this week on the Dundalk site the grain distillery was joined by three mighty copper pot stills, Fionn, Oisin and Setanta (yes the stills have names) of its sister distillery.

    Old Pulteney 1989 Lightly Peated
    Old Pulteney have announced the release of a second vintage limited edition lightly peated whisky, this time they have released Old Pulteney 1989 which is around 26 years old by my calculations. What makes this a lightly peated expression is not the peat level of the distilled whisky but the casks the whisky has matured in.
