William
Morrison's Tasting Notes:
Nose:
A bit of a salty tang mingling with some
vanilla sweetness all coated in a mild
smokiness.
Taste:
Lovely creamy smoked vanilla coats the
palate, a little barley sugar sweetness
and a touch of rich sherried fruit.
Finish:
A lovely creamy vanilla'd smoky finish
which fades to leave some drying oak.
Comment:
A long time
favourite of mine, in my opinion a young Bunnahabhain is
best served peated and the MacPhail's
Collection serves a cracking extremely
enjoyable Bunnahabhain 8 year old. Not
complex or bursting with numerous
nuances, a simple easy to drink smoky
Islay dram and most importantly very
enjoyable. Great use of casks give it
its lovely vanilla notes and barley
sugar sweetness and just a slight touch
of sherry richness. If you like young
smoky Islay drams then put those £50
plus 5 year old distillery bottlings
down for a minute and give this a try
for almost half the price. If G & M
bottled a cask strength version of this
I reckon it would be outstanding.
