Review of Gordon & MacPhail Distillery Labels Ardmore 1996.
Gordon & MacPhail Distillery Labels Ardmore 1996 was matured in Refill Sherry Hogshead casks and bottled at 43% ABV.
In partnership with each respective distillery, all whiskies in Gordon & MacPhail's Distillery Labels range are uniquely labelled. In years gone by many of these unique designs were used ‘officially’ to bottle the whisky under license from the distillery. Today these trusted relationships with distillers enables Gordon & MacPhail to bottle whiskies at various ages, strengths and vintages - all with their unique distillery label.
William
Morrison's Tasting Notes:
Nose:
Subtle sweet Ardmore smoke hides behind
some dark stewed apple and plum, cigar
box. Hint of mature oak.
Taste:
Lightly smoked toasted oak, toffee, a
little stewed plum, some burnt raisins,
some orange.
Finish:
Medium to long length. Touch of smoke, a
little candied orange, some drying
peppery oak.
Comment:
It took a few mouthfuls to get into
this, quite a different Ardmore from the
distillery bottlings and an enjoyable
Ardmore. Exactly what an independent
bottling should be, off the beaten track
of the original distillery bottlings,
still displaying the Ardmore DNA but
with added influence from the choice of
wood the whisky has matured in. A very
easy to drink enjoyable expression.
