Aultmore 21 Year Old Review

You will need to dust off your passport to get your hands on the new Aultmore 21 year old as it is available exclusively in travel retail.

Almost a decade older than than the entry level 12 year old, the 21 year old will only be available in limited quantities and like all the bottlings in the Aultmore whisky range it is presented in its natural unadulterated form, bottled at 46% ABV, non-chill filtered, no added caramel colouring it draws its colour naturally from the re-fill hogsheads casks it slowly matured in for 21 years, just as we like it.

Also good to see the whisky and indeed all the whiskies in the range carry a clear age statement.

William Morrison's Tasting Notes:

Nose: Sweet orange and mild vanilla, some fresh apple hiding there at the back and just the mildest touch of those signature Aultmore grassy notes.

Taste:  Medium to full bodied, velvety smooth, lovely mature sweet oak, light cereal and a gentle candied fruity sweetness, orange, melon, baked apple and banana, almonds, butterscotch, the oils make the flavours cling to the mouth. Some late spice.

Finish: A deliciously long finish, the gentle candied fruit continues into the finish, mature mild sweet oak, musky grassy note, slowly drying.

Comment: Loved it! This really is very good, Aultmore has been producing whisky since 1897 yet we had to wait until now for them to release this. Its a pity you need a passport to get hold of it, this is one to look out for on your travels if you are looking to spoil yourself.

Like the other bottlings in the new Aultmore range you will find the distillery's signature lovely grassy notes which become more apparent with each mouthful.

SMW Score 91/100

The Aultmore 21 year old is exclusively available in Travel Retail priced around £125.
