    The SMWS Wham Bam! Festive Dram (Ben Nevis)
    The SMWS has unveiled a 35cl bottle of its Wham Bam! festive dram, accompanied by a long-stem tasting glass, just in time for the holiday season. Distilled at the Ben Nevis distillery, this 11 Year Old whisky was initially aged in an ex-bourbon hogshead for five years before being transferred to a first-fill Spanish oak Oloroso hogshead. It is
    available to non-members priced at £42, members price is £38.

    Benbecula Distillery Secures £1.5 Million Investment Boost
    Benbecula Distillery, one of Scotland’s newest whisky producers located in the Outer Hebrides, has received a £1.5 million investment boost from the British Business Bank's Investment Fund for Scotland. Delivered through Maven Capital Partners, the funding marks the fund’s first equity investment in the Highlands and Islands and will enable the distillery to scale production, support whisky maturation, and expand its local team.

    Dragon in Clouds Fetches $142433 at Distillers One of One Auction
    KANDOBLANC, the visionary maison where art, culture, and rare whisky converge, has achieved a landmark result at the Distillers One of One auction in partnership with Sotheby’s. Its one-of-a-kind creation, Dragon in Clouds, sold for US $142,433, marking the highest price achieved by an independent boutique company and the sixth-highest lot overall among 39 exceptional releases — more than doubling KANDOBLANC’s previous record.

    Bladnoch Loch Maberry Chapter Two
    Bladnoch, Scotland’s oldest privately-owned distillery, has unveiled the second release in its special series Loch Maberry: Stories of Bladnoch. Loch Maberry Chapter Two is a single Cask 450/2006, a sherry butt cask laid down in 2006. The whisky is said to reveal rich notes of coffee, chocolate, and almonds, finishing with a long, nutty almond character.

    Glasgow based independent Scotch whisky producer Douglas Laing & Co. has announced the successful launch of the Big Peat Highball, the first ready-to-drink expression from its iconic Islay Blended Malt Scotch Whisky brand, Big Peat. Developed in partnership with Japan Import System, the limited-edition serve debuted nationwide in mid-August across 15,000 Japanese retail outlets. The release sold out at remarkable speed.

    Just bumping this up as I tasted it this afternoon. Review of the Glenmorangie A Tale Of Spices, the 6th release in this series from the creative Highland whisky maker. This has no age statement but I would say it is far from being a youngster, I suspect a creative mix of young and old and it certainly delivers its headlined spices and all with a lovely touch of fruit, quite a different Glenmorangie but a very good one.

    The Scotch Malt Whisky Society (SMWS) has kicked off an exciting new series of ultra small-batch releases called ‘Two to One’. Each bottling in this experimental collection marries just two casks of single malt from the same distillery. I got hold of one of the first releases in the new series an outstanding peated Bunnahabhain which began life in two bourbon hogsheads before being re-racked at five years old—one into a first fill American oak Pedro Ximénez hogshead, the other into a second fill Oloroso hogshead.

    Happy New Year all and our first foot in the Whisky News section for 2025 is a new release from The Scotch Malt Whisky Society and as always from The SMWS the whisky's name is as creative as the whisky itself. Skooshy Stroopwaffel, the 30th release in the Scotch Malt Whisky Society's experimental small-batch Heresy range, an undisclosed 10 Year Old Speyside single malt which was initially matured for 8 years in American Bourbon Hogshead casks then finished for 2 years in four fresh European oak sherry butts from Spain’s renowned Juan Pino cooperage.
