Rare Find
introduce a rare Caol Ila 42 Year Old
single cask whisky, a landmark release
that brings the company's 10th
anniversary year to a close.

Independent bottler, Rare Find, has
introduced a rare Caol Ila 42 Year Old
single cask whisky, a landmark release
that brings the company's 10th
anniversary year to a close with some
style.
This new expression—drawn from refill
hogshead #1288—returns to the distillery
that featured in the brand’s very first
bottling, creating a fitting tribute to
a decade of discovery, cask hunting, and
craftsmanship. The release certainly
embodies the Rare Find philosophy of
creating whiskies that are rare by
design, each one an unrepeatable limited
edition sourced from some of Scotland's
most sought-after distilleries. From the
millions of casks maturing across the
country, only a tiny fraction will ever
become single malt bottling's, and from
those, only the finest are selected as a
Rare Find.
Aged for more than 40 years and bottled
at natural cask strength (51.7% ABV),
this distinguished Islay single malt is
said to offer aromas of Cuban cigars and
candied tropical fruits wrapped in
gentle, earthy peat smoke. The palate
delivers lively notes of banana and
lemon, layered with minerality and
refined, airy smoke, culminating in an
exceptionally long and thoughtful
finish.
Priced at an RRP of £999, the
anniversary bottling will be available
from select Rare Find stockists from
12th December 2025.
Beyond marking a significant moment for
the brand, the Caol Ila 42 Year Old
encapsulates the essence of what Rare
Find has championed over its first
decade: cask selection, patient
maturation, and a commitment to liquid
excellence. Each bottle represents the
pinnacle of what time, provenance, and
careful stewardship can achieve.
Founder Derek Mair said: "Our Caol Ila
42-Year-Old is a whisky of distinction –
remarkable not just for its lineage,
echoing the spirit of our very first
release, but for embodying the essence
of everything we pursue: profound depth,
genuine authenticity and singular
character. Decades of patient maturation
have sculpted this venerable spirit into
an archetype of what Rare Find
represents – whiskies defined by
character that are pure enjoyment in
every sip."
As with all Rare Find bottling's, this
release is presented without
compromise—natural cask strength,
natural colour, and no chill
filtration—ensuring its character is
preserved exactly as intended from cask
to glass.
With an RRP of £999 only 42 bottles of
the Rare Find Caol Ila 42 Year Old will
be available from 12th December, it will
be available from specialist online whisky
shops such as
The Whisky Exchange
and
