Kilchoman Loch Gorm 2025 10 Year Old Review

4th April 2025
Kilchoman Loch Gorm 2025 the distillery's deliciously sherry rich annual release has been released with a 10 Year Old age statement. If you enjoy sherry-kissed peat, this one’s hard to top—a refined, extremely flavourful dram that delivers depth without overpowering. Outstanding! It is the first age statement dram from the Islay farm distillery this year marking it 20th anniversary and without beating about the bush you couldn't really ask or expect much better than this for this style of whisky.

Kilchoman Loch Gorm 2025 10 Year OldThe recent release of Kilchoman Loch Gorm 2025 marks a milestone for the Islay farm distillery, introducing their first-ever 10 Year Old expression of Loch Gorm.

Loch Gorm is Kilchoman’s annual limited edition, exclusively matured in sherry casks. It takes its name from the largest freshwater loch on Islay, which lies beside the distillery. The loch’s deep, dark waters are certainly echoed in the rich, coppery hue of this sherry-matured dram.

For the 2025 Edition they have selected a total of 23 Oloroso sherry butts, all distilled for a minimum of 10 years. 20 first-fill casks, rich with bold sherry influence, and 3 second-fill casks, each cask was chosen for its unique flavour profile which, when combined together have once again created a delicious balance of rich fruity sherry character with layers of classic Kilchoman peat smoke and citrus sweetness.

Kilchoman Founder Anthony Wills commented on the 10 Year Old 2025 Edition, saying: "Loch Gorm, in my opinion, is reaching it’s perfect age, balancing those rich sherry notes with our classic Islay spirit. 10 years maturation in sherry casks has added an abundance of rich spices, dark fruit and barbecue sweetness to the light citrus and peaty character of Kilchoman"

Kilchoman Distillery 20th Anniversary

2025 is not only a milestone year for Kilchoman because of the release of a Loch Gorm 10 Year Old expression it is also the distillery's 20th Anniversary year. Founded by Anthony Wills in 2005, the first cask was filled on December 14th and they have been releasing some very tasty peated drams ever since.

Commenting on the past 20 years Kilchoman Founder, Anthony Wills added: "It has been a journey, not always smooth, but immensely fulfilling."

Kilchoman will be celebrating its 20th Anniversary throughout this year with a series of age statement releases, global celebratory events, and plenty more—so watch this space. In the meantime, you can read my thoughts on the new Kilchoman Loch Gorm 2025 10 Year Old below.

William Morrison's Tasting Notes:

Nose: A lovely gentle, earthy sweetness from the peated malt greets the nose, layered with equally gentle vanilla and hints of lemon citrus. Subtler notes of orange zest and ginger lurk in the background.

Taste: Deliciously gentle sweet peat, accented by a subtle edge of lemon citrus and infused with a mellow sweet cream sherry, fills the palate. A late hint of vanilla toffee, a whisper of cinnamon and ginger, and a warm wave of sweet oak spice adds an extra layer of indulgence to the pleasure experience.

Finish: The delicious gentle, sweet, peaty, sherry infused pleasure lingers long into the finish before finally bowing out to let the now slightly drying, peppered, oak spice have the final word.

Comment: Loch Gorm just may have peaked at 10 Years, surely you couldn't really ask or expect much better than this for this style of whisky. The peat never dominates—just smooth, gentle waves that roll through, beautifully infused with rich, creamy sherry. It’s another masterclass in balance from Kilchoman, perfectly marrying their signature peat with the softness of Oloroso sherry. If you enjoy sherry-kissed peat, this one’s hard to top—a refined, extremely flavourful dram that delivers depth without overpowering. Outstanding!

I will just add that it is rather fitting that a whisky this good kicks off Kilchoman's 20th Anniversary year celebrations, I cant wait to see what else is to come this year.

SMW Score 96/100
