The Glasgow
Distillery celebrates a landmark year of
growth, innovation and recognition.

Founded in 2012
as Glasgow’s first independent single
malt whisky distillery in over a
century, The Glasgow Distillery is
rounding off one of the most pivotal
years in its history. The past year has
seen 21 new single malt releases, the
debut of a sold-out visitor tour
programme, and substantial progress
toward its sustainability goals.
After celebrating ten years of whisky
production in March, the distillery
unveiled its inaugural 10 Year Old
single malt earlier this year. The
commemorative release sold out in less
than 20 minutes, signalling a year
defined by strong demand and growing
international reach. Throughout 2025,
The Glasgow Distillery launched a
record-breaking 21 expressions across
overseas markets including Germany,
Belgium and Finland.
As international interest continued to
build, the distillery’s team connected
with more than 60,000 whisky enthusiasts
at events spanning seven countries. Back
in Glasgow, the business strengthened
its presence within the local
hospitality sector, partnering with
venues such as Rascal and wine-and-negroni
bar Malo as part of a wider commitment
to engaging with the city’s flourishing
spirits-focused bar scene.
A key milestone in 2025 was the
introduction of The Glasgow Distillery
Experience, which welcomed visitors into
the working distillery for the first
time. All 14 tour dates released for the
year sold out rapidly, offering guests
exclusive access to the innovation lab,
production spaces and the on-site
cooperage, one of only a handful still
operating in Scotland.
The year also saw the Glasgow 1770
Single Malt portfolio grow with the
release of two new annual bottling's:
Glasgow 1770 Ruby Port Cask Finish and
Glasgow 1770 Bourbon Cask Matured.
Alongside these launches, the distillery
celebrated significant industry
recognition, including Excellence in
Branding at The Scottish Whisky Awards,
Best Lowland Single Malt for Glasgow
1770 Peated, and Best Small Batch Single
Malt for the Ruby Port Cask Finish at
the World Whiskies Awards Scotland 2026.
Further honours included Cooper of the
Year for onsite cooper Hugh McMurray, as
well as a Highly Commended distinction
for the distillery in the Distillery of
the Year category.
Sustainability remained a core focus
throughout 2025. Through targeted
efficiency improvements and longer-term
environmental initiatives, The Glasgow
Distillery achieved a 40% reduction in
water use and cut gas consumption across
the site by 20%.
Mike Hayward, Founder of The Glasgow
Distillery, said: "Marking ten years of
whisky making has been a significant
moment for us, but the momentum we’ve
seen throughout 2025 has been just as
important, especially against the
backdrop of a challenging whisky market.
From record international releases to
opening our doors to the public for the
first time, and building stronger
relationships across Glasgow’s
hospitality scene, this year reflects
how far the distillery has come since
2012. The response from whisky drinkers
at home and abroad has been exceptional,
and these achievements put us in a
strong position as we enter our next
decade."
