Bruichladdich Black Art Sapero First Part Of New GTR Series

18th November 2025
Bruichladdich unveils new Black Art Series as a Global Travel Retail exclusive limited edition.

Bruichladdich Black Art Sapero

Bruichladdich has relaunched its iconic Black Art range with a brand-new, travel retail–exclusive series, beginning with the release of Black Art Sapero. The first chapter in this new multi-part collection makes its worldwide debut this month at Singapore Changi Airport as part of the Changi 1st initiative. Owned by Rémy Cointreau, the Bruichladdich Distillery Company is positioning this opening release as the foundation for an annual series rollout.

The progressive Islay distillery has chosen Singapore Changi Airport T4 for the series’ first appearance, in collaboration with LOTTE DUTY FREE Singapore. The one-month exclusive listing began on 4 November and will run until the end of December.

A Mystery Crafted Through Mastery

Taking its name from the Latin verb meaning ‘to know’ or ‘to discern’, Black Art Sapero pays tribute to the traditions of whisky making and highlights the expertise of Master Blender Adam Hannett. Unlike Bruichladdich’s longstanding focus on transparency, this release embraces secrecy. Its origins, barley varieties and cask types remain known only to Hannett — a mystery reflected in the series’ guiding phrase: ‘Every bottle a chapter; every sip a secret’.

Beyond the disclosed age and ABV, the distillery invites travellers to immerse themselves in the unknown, relying solely on Hannett’s craftsmanship to guide the experience.

An Exploration of Rare Stocks and Timeless Maturation

Crafted from some of the distillery’s most limited reserves, Black Art Sapero represents a marriage of spirit, wood and time. Matured entirely on Islay for 19 years in undisclosed casks, and bottled at 47.8% ABV, it offers a flavour-first profile. Aromas of dark chocolate lead the nose, lifted by bursts of citrus and touches of black cherry. On the palate, malted barley, maple syrup and caramelised brown sugar unfold alongside warm spices and a delicate mineral note.

Hannett commented: "Black Art has always been about embracing the unknown, and creating Sapero was a chance to trust the process entirely. Relying on instinct and experimenting with some of our rarest casks, every decision was guided beyond logic or rule. The result is something truly enigmatic – an unforgettable whisky that invites you to taste, question, and ultimately trust in the mystery."

This new release signals a turning point for Black Art. First introduced in 2012, the collection will now be exclusive to global travel retail, with Black Art Propheta and Black Art Empresse slated for release in November 2026 and 2027 respectively.

Immersive Launch: The Library of Secrets

To celebrate the arrival of Black Art Sapero, Bruichladdich and LOTTE DUTY FREE Singapore have created The Library of Secrets, an immersive, theatrical activation designed to capture travellers’ curiosity. A seamless blend of digital and physical touchpoints forms a 360-degree campaign, beginning with targeted Grab ride-hailing advertisements that introduce consumers to the world of Black Art before they reach the airport.

At the heart of the activation is a striking, oversized book that opens to reveal digital content, including tasting notes and previews of future series chapters. Visitors are then guided by a vintage rotary phone — a direct line to Islay — where a recorded message from Hannett encourages them deeper into the space.

Bookshelf-inspired merchandise displays hide a sensory "book" that unlocks flavour cues through scent, light and symbolic design. Purchasers are invited to personalise a luggage tag gift-with-purchase, offering a keepsake to commemorate the experience.

Travellers who sign up for the Black Art passport can collect stamps for each whisky purchased, with eligibility to win an exclusive trip to meet Hannett at the Bruichladdich Distillery on Islay. Registrants will also receive updates on future releases.

Rémy Cointreau CEO Global Travel Retail Fida Bou Chabke said: "The introduction of Black Art Sapero marks a defining moment for Bruichladdich in global travel retail. By making this exceptional series exclusive to the channel, we are offering travellers something truly unique – a whisky born from mystery, craftsmanship and trust.
“I’m delighted to partner with LOTTE DUTY FREE Singapore and Singapore Changi Airport to bring The Library of Secrets to life in a way that’s immersive, meaningful and memorable. Black Art Sapero, and this supporting activation, transforms curiosity into connection – embodying Bruichladdich’s drive to innovate and engage through genuine storytelling and unwavering excellence."

Following its debut at Singapore Changi, Black Art Sapero will begin rolling out to select global travel retail locations from December 2025.
