Glen Moray Maple Cask Finish Spirit Drinks

Glen Moray continues to explore in cask maturation, and its latest release comes in the form of two limited edition 'Spirit Drink' releases, one peated, one unpeated and each has been finished in Canadian maple syrup casks—a first for the Elgin-based distillery. These unique expressions blend the natural sweetness of maple syrup with Glen Moray’s classic Speyside character, showcasing the distillery’s ongoing commitment to pushing the boundaries of maturation and flavour exploration.

Available in both peated and unpeated styles, the bottling's pair Glen Moray’s hallmark smooth, fruity profile with rich, syrupy complexity. These limited edition releases make their debut today at the Glen Moray Distillery during the Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival (30 April to 5 May 2025) and will continue to be sold onsite while supplies last.

With just over 200 bottles of each expression, both are non-chill filtered and began their maturation in American oak casks before finishing in barrels previously used for Canadian maple syrup. The unpeated edition (59% ABV) is indulgently smooth, offering flavours of sticky toffee, brown sugar, and vanilla fudge. The peated variant (59.1% ABV) introduces a layer of soft smoke, complementing treacle, smoked spices, and a maple glaze for a bold yet balanced tasting experience.

Iain Allan, Global Brand Ambassador at Glen Moray said: "We're always exploring new cask finishes to push the boundaries of flavour. These limited-edition maple syrup casks are a bold example — the maple influence is immediate and unmistakable: rich, syrupy sweetness that adds depth and indulgence, while still allowing the Glen Moray character to shine through.

"The unpeated spirit brings out those classic dessert-like notes — fudge, toasted nuts, soft spice — while the peated version is a different experience altogether. The smoke and syrup play off each other nicely, creating a bold and layered dram that’s both sweet and savoury. We love surprising people at Spirit of Speyside—these playful, flavour-packed bottling's show our curiosity as distillers and prove that even after 125 years, we're still finding new ways to bring flavour to life."

Visitors to the 2025 Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival will be among the first to experience Glen Moray’s innovative new releases. As part of the celebration, the distillery will host a variety of events, including ‘Breakfast Tours’, ‘Boozy Brunch Tastings’, ‘Cask Origin Stories’, and exclusive ‘Whisky Talks’ sessions.

Established in Elgin, Speyside, in 1897, Glen Moray has long been dedicated to crafting exceptional single malts and pioneering the role of wood in shaping whisky flavour. That spirit of discovery lives on in its latest expressions—an embodiment of the distillery’s guiding motto: "Cask Explorer Since 1897."

The new Peated Maple Cask (59.1% ABV) and Unpeated Maple Cask (59% ABV) releases will be available from 30 April at the Glen Moray Distillery, priced at £90 per bottle. Learn more at www.glenmoray.com.
