The
GlenAllachie unveils first ever single
cask additions to its Meikle Tòir range
of peated single malts.

Independent
Speyside distillery The GlenAllachie has
announced the first single cask releases
in its peated Meikle Tòir range: a 2018
Pedro Ximénez Sherry Hogshead
(distillery exclusive) and a 2019
Oloroso Sherry Hogshead (online
exclusive).
Hand-selected by Master Distiller Billy
Walker, these cask strength expressions
are said to showcase the distillery’s
bold peated character, enriched by
sherry cask maturation.
The 2018 PX Hogshead #11569 distillery
exclusive bottling was matured for seven
years in a first-fill sherry cask, it is
said to offer notes of fig jam, toasted
hazelnuts, honeyed spice, and
chocolate-marzipan warmth.
The 2019 Oloroso Hogshead #8729 online
exclusive was aged six years and is said
to deliver smoky depth with aromas of
soft tobacco, figs, and orange, leading
to mocha, grilled honeycomb, and smoked
fruits.
Billy Walker, Master Distiller at The
GlenAllachie Distillery, said: "When
selecting our first Meikle Tòir single
casks, I was looking for whiskies that
truly captured the bold, smoky character
that defines the range, with added depth
and complexity from exceptional sherry
cask maturation.
"These two casks stood out to me
straight away. Both are a real
reflection of the signature peated style
we’ve been evolving at the distillery:
full of robust sherry character, yet
still true to the sweet and smoky
mainland spirit of Meikle Tòir.
"We have bottled them at natural
strength, so what you are tasting is as
close as it gets to sampling straight
from the cask. No fuss - just great,
honest whisky."
Crafted with mainland peat from St
Fergus—known for its sweeter, oaky smoke
compared to Islay peat—both expressions
are non-chill filtered and feature
natural colour from the cask. A long
fermentation of 160 hours, nearly triple
the industry standard, adds depth and
complexity, enhancing the spirit’s bold
character and fruity notes.
Available from the The GlenAllachie
distillery shop and online shop
respectively, the single cask whiskies
are priced at £75.99 and limited to just
355 and 357 bottles, the 2018 Pedro
Ximénez Sherry Hogshead comes in at
59.9% ABV with a peat level of 44PPM,
while the 2019 Oloroso Hogshead is
bottled at 60.5% ABV with 47PPM of peat.
These debut single cask releases mark a
significant milestone for The
GlenAllachie’s Meikle Tòir range, with
additional single cask editions planned
for select international markets.
