Ardgowan
Distillery’s boutique Scotch whisky
label Clydebuilt has broadened its
portfolio with four new Single Malt and
Blended Malt releases, following a £5
million investment this year securing
whisky stock for the brand.

Scotch whisky
label Clydebuilt has unveiled four new
limited edition expressions, among them
three Single Cask bottling's.
Owned by the independent producer
Ardgowan Distillery Company, the
boutique brand has been building its
maturing stock since the business was
established in 2016.
Ardgowan Distillery, located in
Inverclyde, began producing its own malt
whisky in June. As this spirit develops
over the coming years, Clydebuilt
"offers the opportunity for us to
showcase our expertise in wood
management and the art of blending".
The collection pays tribute to the River
Clyde’s famed shipbuilding legacy, with
‘Clydebuilt’ long recognised as a mark
of exceptional craftsmanship.
The company reaffirmed its dedication to
the brand through a major outlay on
mature malt whisky, investing £5 million
in 2025 and planning an additional £4
million in 2026.
CEO Roland Grain outlined the thinking
behind the move: "Our bespoke Infinity
Casks for Ardgowan spirit are designed
for long maturation by their very
nature. The stock we’ve already
acquired, and this further investment,
ensure Clydebuilt will have solid
foundations for the decades ahead until
Ardgowan Single Malt is truly ready.
This is a key step in achieving our goal
to double turnover annually until 2030."
Distillery Manager and Whisky Maker
Laura Davies led the cask selection,
with all casks matured in the
traditional dunnage warehouses on site.
The latest releases comprise one Blended
Malt and three Single Cask Single Malts:
- Clydebuilt
27 Year Old 100% Sherry Matured
Blended Malt – Speyside, Highland &
Island (RRSP £95): a layered
combination of Highland and Island
whiskies matured in a Pedro Ximénez
Sherry hogshead, alongside a 33 Year
Old Benrinnes malt. Bottled at 41.8%
ABV. Limited to 408 bottles.
- Clydebuilt
2009 Bourbon Hogshead, Fettercairn
Distillery (RRSP £85):
Highland-distilled spirit from cask
800292, matured at Ardgowan and
showing Bourbon-derived notes of
toffee apples and citrus. Bottled at
56.3% ABV. A release of 272 bottles.
- Clydebuilt
2012 Bourbon Hogshead, Royal Brackla
Distillery (RRSP £75): matured in
cask 306449, which formerly held
Bourbon, yielding 290 bottles with
bright notes of lemongrass, green
apple and vanilla. Bottled at 52.9%
ABV.
- Clydebuilt
2014 Sherry Butt, Ben Nevis
Distillery (RRSP £85): a Highland
malt aged in a single Spanish Sherry
cask (#800040), with 327 bottles
offering aromas of cinnamon-stewed
pears and flavours of butterscotch,
nutmeg and brown sugar. Bottled at
60% ABV.
All four
expressions are bottled at natural cask
strength, without colouring or chill
filtration, ensuring their full
character remains intact.
Responding to the launch, Davies says:
"The Clydebuilt brand stands on
craftsmanship and pride in quality, just
like the Clyde’s former shipbuilders.
With these new releases, we’ve drawn on
exceptional whiskies and incredible,
rich casks to create expressions full of
character and individuality. These malts
show just some of the scope we’re
working with in our aged stocks. Having
invested £5 million this year in
securing stock to lay down for
Clydebuilt, there’s a very bright future
ahead for the brand."
In September, Ardgowan expanded
Clydebuilt’s global reach through a
series of new distribution agreements
across major markets in Europe, North
America and Asia.
I haven't tasted this new batch of
Clydebuilt releases but given the
quality of what has come before them (see
Clydebuilt reviews here)
I would think they
wont be around long.
