Rhubarb, custard and Highland smoke: Cù Bòcan’s Creation #7 whisky celebrates 20 years of peat at Tomatin

Cù Bòcan Creation #7Cù Bòcan—the experimental single malt produced at Tomatin Distillery in the Scottish Highlands each winter—has unveiled its most daring expression yet. Cù Bòcan Creation #7 marks two decades of peated spirit production at the distillery.

Drawing inspiration from the lightly peated whisky Tomatin crafted more than a century ago, Cù Bòcan is known for its unconventional cask choices, creating distinctive releases that expand the boundaries of maturation and flavour.

The seventh instalment in the Creations series, Creation #7 has been matured in a rare combination of Pineau des Charentes Rouge and American virgin oak casks. The result they say is a whisky defined by notes of rhubarb, custard, gentle heather smoke and sweet oak spice.

Leveraging Tomatin’s long-standing expertise with fortified wine casks—most recently showcased in the French Collection—blender and global brand ambassador Scott Adamson selected Pineau des Charentes Rouge casks to bring a fresh layer of character to the Cù Bòcan portfolio.

He said: "Creation #7 is Cù Bòcan’s most limited Creations release to date and is more than a whisky but an invitation to explore. The Pineau des Charentes Rouge casks are rarely used in Scotch whisky maturation and influence the lightly peated spirit to unlock nostalgic and unexpected flavours."

Creation #7 also commemorates 20 years of Tomatin’s annual peated production run, a winter tradition since 2005. Distilling Cù Bòcan during the coldest months ensures exceptionally low water temperatures, creating faster condensation and giving the new make a subtly oilier texture.

The whisky is presented in Cù Bòcan’s signature bottle, packaged in a striking pink-and-yellow carton that reflects its rhubarb-and-custard flavour profile. Engraved contours on the glass evoke both the curling smoke characteristic of the whisky and the casks that shaped it.

A limited release of 3,000 bottles worldwide, with 1,400 allocated to the UK, and priced at £45 RRP it has been bottled at 46% ABV, naturally coloured and non-chill filtered. Cù Bòcan Creation #7 is available from today, 24 November 2025, through Tomatin Distillery’s online shop and s
pecialist online whisky shops such as The Whisky Exchange and Master of Malt
