The
GlenAllachie 12 Year Old has been named
the World's Best Single Malt at the
World Whikies Awrds 2025.
 The
GlenAllachie has once again been crowned
the World’s Best Single Malt at the
World Whiskies Awards, with its 12 Year
Old expression earning the prestigious
title.
Owned by whisky industry veteran and
qualified chemist Billy Walker—whose
whisky career spans 53 years—the
Speyside distillery previously claimed
the same accolade in 2021 with its
outstanding 10 Year Old Cask Strength
Batch 4.
Notably, The GlenAllachie is the only
Scottish whisky brand to receive this
highly sought-after award since 2017,
with recent winners hailing from
England, Israel, and Japan.
Established in 1967, the distillery
originally produced whisky for premium
blends until Walker took ownership in
2017. Since launching its core range of
single malts in 2018, the brand has
experienced remarkable global growth,
now reaching over 50 countries—driven by
Walker’s exceptional reputation.
Renowned for its signature "heather
honey house style" and Sherry-forward
maturation approach, The GlenAllachie
continues to impress whisky connoisseurs
worldwide.
The award-winning 12 Year Old expression
(UK RRSP £58) was matured on-site in a
combination of Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso
Sherry, red wine, and virgin oak casks.
Judges praised its flavour profile,
describing notes of "dried apple,
gourmet chutney, orange zest, nutmeg,
and cinnamon."
Commenting on the exceptional
achievement, Walker shares: "The whole

endorsement of the 12-year-old: our
flagship expression. When we took the
reins at the distillery almost 8 years
ago, it was beyond our wildest dreams
that a previously low-profile whisky
would be crowned the world’s best single

Bottled at 46% ABV, naturally coloured,
non-chill-filtered.
William
Morrison's Tasting Notes:
Nose:
An enticing fine balance of gentle
honey, raisins and equally gentle sweet
oak spices. Buttery toffee after a few
inhalations, some distant coffee.
Taste:
A deliciously rich, juicy sherried oak
delivery.
A balance of honey, vanilla and almonds
leads followed closely by some juicy
raisins & sultanas, dark cherry,
orange zest and a little fresh
apple fruitiness. A little cinnamon
spiciness trying to break through and
some oak that appears a little more
mature than its 12 year age statement.
Finish:
The fruitiness and sugars fades
first, it then bitters out with some coffee,
a little nuttiness and some lovely
lingering, mildly drying,
gentle oak spice.
Comment:
Now a lovely well balanced lightly sherried oak
dram, full of flavour and a must try for
sherried/bourbon cask combination Speyside whisky fans. Better
than I remember it.
