Master of Malt A Secret Speyside Distillery 10 Year Old Review

27th August 2025
Review of the Master of Malt A Secret Speyside Distillery 10 Year Old.

Specialist whisky retailer Master of Malt who this year marks 40 years of keeping our whisky glasses topped up recently reimagined their independent whisky bottling's, launching their new look range not only here in the UK but it will now be available through distributors across Europe, Middle East, India, Africa, Asia-Pacific and North America, the range marks a major step in Master of Malt’s global presence.

The updated range features refined branding and clearer tiering, from everyday standouts to rare discoveries. Highlights include a forthcoming 40-year-old Girvan grain whisky—described by the MoM team as "absolute nectar"—as well as a 29-year-old Tobermory (RRP £199.95), a 16-year-old Dailuaine (£69.95), and a selection of secret
Speyside and Highland single casks starting at £34.95. True to Master of Malt’s philosophy, all releases are non-chill-filtered, free of added colouring, and offer whisky drinkers great value.

It is the Master of Malt A Secret Speyside Distillery 10 Year Old which I am focusing on here, as its name suggests they haven't revealed the name of the distillery in Speyside where the whisky was distilled. What they do tell us is that it is a marriage of casks, although they don't say what type of casks or how many, between them they have produced 1,179 bottles, all bottled at 40% ABV, non-chill-filtered and naturally coloured.

William Morrison's Tasting Notes:

Nose: An inviting nose with fresh pear and crisp green apple leading the way, wrapped in a gentle creamy vanilla sweetness, with subtle hints of coconut and a soft touch of oak. Distant floral notes.

Taste: Silky smooth, with bright orchard fruits—pear and apple—at the forefront, joined by a hint of pineapple and a lift of zesty lemon. A dusting of vanilla icing sugar rounds the edges, while coconut and delicate oak spice emerge gracefully in the background.

Finish: Longish, the orchard fruits gently fade, revealing a fleeting note of sugared almonds. Vanilla softens into a light honeyed character, before gentle oak steps forward with a whisper of drying, peppery spice to close.

Comment: The pear supported by the apple and vanilla are the stars of this show supported by the oak. I would guess an ex-Bourbon cask matured, Speyside single malt whisky, and if someone told me that this was distilled at the Glenlivet distillery I would not be surprised, but of course we will never know, but I can tell you for its current price of £34.95 it is a easy drinking enjoyable classic Speyside dram.

SMW Whisky Score 86/100
