The SMWS Cask No. 88.31 Supper Sipper For Burns Night

14th January 2025
Just in time to toast the Bard on Burns Night, The Scotch Malt Whisky Society has released a special Burns Night whisky, The SMWS Cask No. 88.31 Supper Sipper.

The SMWS Cask No. 88.31 Supper Sipper 15 Year OldWith the anniversary of Scotland's National Bards Burns birth less than a couple of weeks away, 25 January, an event which is celebrated the world over with a Burns Supper I thought this new release today from the world's biggest whisky club, The Scotch Malt Whisky Society (SMWS) may be of interest to you, The SMWS Cask N0. 88.31 Supper Sipper.

The SMWS Cask No. 88.31 Supper Sipper is a 15 Year Old single malt whisky which was distilled at Speyburn distillery, it has been finished in a first-fill Pedro Ximénez hogshead. Bottled at 56.1% ABV, this limited edition of just 264 bottles was chosen by the Society as a tribute to Scotland’s beloved national poet, Robert Burns.

This marks the final release in the Society’s Winter Series collection, which included Supernaturally Sweet Smoke for Halloween, Merry Christmas, and Welcome In, 2025, launched at Hogmanay.

Described by the Society’s Tasting Panel as a journey of complex flavours, they say Supper Sipper begins with rich notes of Assam tea, malted barley, and caramelised orange zest. On the palate, it is said to offer a luxurious blend of rocky road-style indulgence, combining milk and dark chocolate, coconut, and glacé cherries. With a touch of water, the whisky evolves to reveal refined, cocktail-inspired layers of cranberry, maple syrup, and tropical mango.

"This Burns Night release embodies our commitment to adventures in flavour and the spirit of togetherness that Burns himself celebrated,” says Euan Campbell, Head of Whisky Creation at the SMWS.

"Just as Burns’s poetry brings people together at this time of year, we see whisky fans coming together to raise a glass of this exceptional whisky.

"We’ve selected a cask that not only honours the tradition of the Burns Supper but invites our whole whisky community to explore new flavour perspectives. Whether you’re joining us at one of our special events or enjoying a dram at home, Supper Sipper is the perfect dram to raise a glass to Scotland’s poetic and whisky heritage."

To celebrate Burns Night 2025, the Society is organising a series of exclusive tasting events across the UK. Locations include Aberdeen, Melrose, and Inverness in Scotland, as well as Manchester, Newcastle, and Harrogate in England. These special events, open to both members and non-members, offer limited availability and a unique chance to savour six of their unique single cask whiskies paired with a traditional Burns Supper featuring haggis, neeps, and tatties.
