Whisky Focus - Ardgowan Launches Six Clydebuilt Single Malts

Clydebuilt, the independently bottled Scotch whisky brand from Ardgowan Distillery Company, has unveiled six new small-batch Single Malt releases, including three Single Cask expressions.

The boutique label, first introduced in 2019, is crafted under the stewardship of Ardgowan Distillery—an independent Scotch whisky producer based in Inverkip. The distillery which officially opened its doors to the public only last month, following eight years of planning and construction, and recently filled its first cask of house-made spirit.

A Legacy in Every Drop

The Clydebuilt range pays homage to the River Clyde’s illustrious shipbuilding heritage, a name synonymous with craftsmanship, resilience, and integrity.

Distillery Manager Laura Davies—whose 13-year career includes mentorship under the late Dr. Jim Swan—curated this latest batch of Clydebuilt Single Malts, sourced from the world-renowned Speyside region.

The Six New Releases:

• Clydebuilt 12 Year Old Sherry Cask Matured
  Aged in a combination of Sherry butts, Oloroso, and Pedro Ximénez hogsheads, bottled at 46% ABV. RRP £46.99
   
• Clydebuilt 12 Year Old 100 Proof Sherry Cask Matured
  A robust interpretation of the above, bottled at 57.1% ABV (British 100 Proof), recalling the era when spirits were tested with gunpowder ignition. RRP £64.99
   
• Clydebuilt 12 Year Old Official Opening Day Release
  A commemorative bottling marking Ardgowan’s official opening on June 20, 2025. Matured in three Sherry casks, presented at cask strength of 59.5% ABV. RRP £85
   
• Clydebuilt 2012 Pedro Ximénez (PX) Hogshead Single Cask
  Drawn from cask AS059, which once held PX Sherry, yielding 352 bottles at 58.5% ABV. RRP £85
   
• Clydebuilt 2012 Oloroso Hogshead Single Cask
  Matured in cask AS076, previously home to Oloroso—the richest of dry Sherries. Limited to 342 bottles at 59.0% ABV. RRP £85
   
• Clydebuilt 2012 Manzanilla Hogshead Single Cask
  Finished in a rare Manzanilla cask from Sanlúcar de Barrameda, delivering a delicate maritime character. Only 335 bottles available at 61.1% ABV. RRP £85

As with all Clydebuilt expressions, every whisky is bottled natural colour and non-chill filtered—ensuring an authentic and uncompromised taste.

Remarking on the news, Davies shares: "With Ardgowan situated on the Firth of Clyde, the rich history of craftsmanship local to our distillery is the inspiration for the Clydebuilt brand. Every whisky bottled under the name must be worthy of honouring the unmatched attention to detail and pride in quality of those that came before.

"Our new Single Malts underwent maturation on-site at Ardgowan in premium European oak Sherry casks. All aged for 12 years, each delivers distinctive character owed to both the distillate profile and the maturation history. Most importantly, they are all bottled with an age statement, at a minimum of 46% ABV, without chill filtration and without artificial colouring. These are undoubtedly Single Malts deserving of the Clydebuilt name."
