Glen Moray Scoops Two 2018 Spirit of Speyside Whisky Awards

10th May 2018
Glen Moray impresses scooping 2 of the 5 awards at the Spirit of Speyside whisky awards, these are rather unique awards, as the winners are chosen by members of the public who attend tasting sessions during the festival.

The Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival Whisky Awards is an awards like no other. The judging process takes place in two stages. The first round is a blind nosing and tasting of Speyside's finest malts by selected judges.

The next stage sees two whiskies from each of the four categories shortlisted to go forward for the Roving Whisky Awards Judging and Tasting, when visitors and locals can cast their vote during the Speyside Festival. The Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival Whisky Awards are the only whisky awards where the real judges of whisky - the whisky drinkers - have the final vote and for that reason the whiskies which pick up a Speyside Whisky Festival Whisky Award are always worth trying yourself if you haven't already.

At the end of this year’s Spirit of Speyside Festival Glen Moray was thrilled to be awarded two out of the five whisky awards, with their Glen Moray Chardonnay Cask Finish winning the No Age category beating The Glenlivet Nŕdurra Peated Cask Finish into second place.

Glen Moray 18 Year OldIn the 13-20 year category the superb Glen Moray Elgin Heritage 18 year old took the honours with Aberlour 18 year old in second place.

Graham Coull, Glen Moray’s Master Distiller was joined at the award ceremony by Ed Dodson and said "it was wonderful to share the success with my predecessor Ed Dodson, the 4th Master Distiller at Glen Moray. We are both delighted to see our whiskies gain worldwide recognition."

Glen Moray’s Chardonnay Cask Finish is part of the Elgin Classic Collection and offers a perfect balance of caramelised fruit, butterscotch and lingering notes of toasted oats.

Only launched last year, the Glen Moray Elgin Heritage 18 year old has certainly impressed whisky critics and drinkers, including myself, it has an undeniable First Fill oak influence, the 18 years it has spent maturing in First Fill American oak and the fact that it is non chill filtered and has a bottling strength of 47% ABV has made this a pleasure, a delicious very enjoyable mature Speyside dram.

You will find both the award winning Glen Moray whiskies along with the rest of the current Glen Moray whisky range available from specialist online whisky retailers such as The Whisky Exchange and  Master of Malt
