Review of the
Glen Moray Elgin Heritage Collection 18
year old.
As
the Glen Moray distillery has just
celebrated its 120th anniversary of
whisky making on the 13th September I
thought I what better time is there than
now to take a look at a few whiskies
from their core range.
The Glen Moray 18 year old is the oldest of three whiskies in the
Speyside distillery's Elgin Heritage
Collection, it was matured in First Fill American oak, bottled at 47% ABV,
non chill filtered
and is usually priced around £68.
William
Morrison's Tasting Notes:
Nose: Sweet barley and creamy
toffee with just the hint of fruitcake
in the background.
Taste: A delicious barley
sugar candy sweetness, vanilla, zesty
oranges, lemon and pear,
a lovely light touch of oak spice
hanging around the background.
Finish: A lovely long tongue
tingling finish with creamy butter
toffee, a touch of liquorice. which
fades leaving the lingering oak
spice infused with very gentle sweet
candied fruit which bitters out.
Comment: An undeniable First Fill
oak influence, the 18 years in First
Fill American oak and with a non chill
filtered bottling strength of 47% ABV has
made this a pleasure. This is my first
time with this and it wont be my last, a
delicious very enjoyable mature Speyside
dram.
SMW Score 90/100
