Review of Deanston 2008 10 Year Old Brandy Cask Finish
Distell 2018 Malt Whisky Collection.
 The Deanston 2008 Brandy Cask Finish
is the only offering from Deanston in
Distell's inaugural Malt Whisky
Collection.
A limited release of only 672 bottles
within the UK, bottled at Cask Strength, 56.4% ABV, natural colour and non chill
filtered it was filled into traditional oak whisky
casks in 2008. Following almost eight
years of maturation it made the cut for
transfer to a unique selection of French
Brandy Butt casks, before being returned
to their vaulted warehouse for its final
two years of maturation.
The result, Distell
says, is a delicious dram brimming with
an abundance of delectable spiced fruit
and honey flavours.

Morrison's Tasting Notes:
Nose:
A rich fruity nose with a bunch of
sweet, ripe dessert grapes, raisins,
sultanas a little cherry, sweet vanilla
toffee, some distant spice and a little
honey lurking in the background.
Taste:
The delicious sweet brandy fruits lead
with intensity, some lovely Black Forest
cake cherry and a little orange. The
fruits make way for some typical
Deanston honey and vanilla, some pear,
then becomes more toffee 'd with some
late oak and spice.
Finish:
The brandy fruits bow out quickly
leaving a little tobacco, and mildly
drying oak and a little peppery spice.
Comment:
The brandy cask has undoubtedly added a
delicious fruity dimension to the
Deanston spirit, a fantastic nose and
the fruits are intense at first on the
palate. Finishes a bit quickly but
easily remedied with another mouthful.
Certainly a step up in quality and
pleasure from the standard Deanston core
range around this age and it very much
deserves its place in the inaugural
Distell Limited Release Malt Collection,
and priced around £60.
