Review of Ledaig 1998 19 Year Old PX Cask Finish
Distell 2018 Malt Whisky Collection.
 This
Ledaig 1998 19 Year Old PX Cask Finish
is one of two Ledaig 19 year old
expressions in Distell's inaugural Malt
Whisky Collection.
The whisky spent 18 years maturing in
traditional oak whisky casks before
being selected by Ledaig's senior
blender to be finished for almost 2
years in newly acquired (at the time) PX
casks.
Bottled at Cask Strength, 55.7% ABV,
natural colour and non chill filtered
this is a limited release of 360 bottles
within the UK.

Morrison's Tasting Notes:
Nose:
Cadburys fruit and nut, vanilla and
mature oak and some gentle smoke.
Taste:
Dusty vanilla, Demerara sugar, burnt
raisins, orange, crushed almonds, some
spice and a little dark chocolate all
with a gentle peat smoke coating. The
grape, vanilla and oak spice combine
wonderfully.
Finish:
Deliciously long and lingering, the
sugars and fruits just hang on for an
age before bowing out to leave some
light smoke and sweet oak spice.
Comment:
They say the cask makes the whisky and
in comparison to the
Ledaig 1998 19 Year Old Oloroso Sherry
Cask Finish in this inaugural
Distell Limited Release Malt Collection
this has never been more true. OK
perhaps the comparison is a little bit
unfair as the Oloroso finish has been
bottle at a lower strength than this PX
cask finsih but all the same it makes an
interesting comparison.
Back to this Ledaig 1998 19 Year Old PX
Cask Finish, a great example of just how
good this distillery can be at his age.
