To mark World
Chocolate Day Douglas Laing have
released a limited edition Scallywag
Chocolate Edition Speyside blended malt.
 To mark World Chocolate Day, which is
today, 7th July, the creative folks at
Douglas Laing have revealed a special
limited release Scallywag Chocolate
Edition.
Douglas Laing tell me that the limited
edition Speyside blended malt was
created using whiskies which have
matured predominantly in Spanish Sherry
butts, with the result being a whisky
which has a deep cocoa and red fruit
character.
As those of you who have tried pairing
their favourite chocolate with a big
sherried Speyside dram will know, it can
be simply delicious, and I believe that
Douglas Laing had this in mind when
putting together this sherried Scallywag
Speyside dram.
It is a 2009 Vintage, so it is aged
around 9 year old and there will be only
300 bottles are available, each one
individually numbered and packaged with
a gold foiled label and printed gift
bag. The mouth-watering label design
features the much-loved Scallywag Fox
Terrier amidst a tantalisingly tempting
melted chocolate backdrop, said to
reflect the mocha-rich and decadent
spirit inside. In line with the family
firm’s ethos to bottle Scotch Whisky "as
natural as it gets", it is non
chill-filtered and has been bottled at a
tasty 48% ABV.
Cara Laing, self-confessed sweet tooth
and Director of Whisky in the family
business, comments on the special
bottling:
"The unique recipe that Fred and I have
created for our latest release combines
heavily Sherried Single Malts
exclusively from Speyside Distilleries.
Dram-packed with decadent notes of rich
mocha, caramelised nuts and dark
chocolate shavings, it’s a wonderful
Whisky for World Chocolate Day, and
indeed any special occasion!"
The folks at Douglas Laing suggest
pairing their Scallywag Chocolate
edition with your favourite
chocolate-based indulgence, mine is the
deliciously dark Cadbury Bourneville
chocolate, to further enhance the
character and depth of Scallywag’s
Chocolate Edition.
The Scallywag Chocolate Edition will be
available from 11am today, World
Chocolate Day, from the Douglas Laing
