Review of the
new Glenallachie 12 Year Old.
The
Glenallachie 12 Year Old is one of four
new whiskies in the recently launched
core range from the Speyside distillery
under the new owners, a consortium lead
by Billy Walker, who some of you will
already know from his time at the helm
of the BenRiach
Distillery Company.
The
Glenallachie 12 Year Old is described by
Walker as "the heart of our range",
matured in a combination ex-American
Bourbon Oak, Pedro Ximinez and Oloroso
casks, bottled at 46% ABV it is
naturally coloured, non-chill-filtered
and has an RRP of £42.50.
William
Morrison's Tasting Notes:
Nose:
A fine balance of gentle honey, raisins
and equally gentle sweet oak spices.
Buttery toffee after a few inhalations.
Taste:
A balance of honey, vanilla and almonds
leads followed closely by some juicy
raisins & sultanas and a little fresh
apple fruitiness. A little cinnamon
spiciness trying to break through.
Finish:
Medium length, the fruitiness fades
first, coffee, nutty, mildly drying
gentle oak spice.
Comment:
I can't fault this, a nice clean lightly
sherried Glenallachie, certainly an easy drinker
for everyday dramming.
