Review of the
new Glenallachie 18 Year Old.
 The
Glenallachie 18 Year Old is one of four
new whiskies in the recently launched
core range from the Speyside distillery
under the new owners, a consortium lead
by Billy Walker, who some of you will
already know from his time at the helm
of the BenRiach
Distillery Company.
The
distillery say that this 18 year old
expression "exemplifies the signature
style of The Glenallachie, a combination
of rich and robust spirit", matured in a
combination Pedro Ximinez, Oloroso and
American oak casks, it has been bottled
at 46% ABV, it is naturally coloured,
non-chill-filtered and has an RRP of
£92.
William
Morrison's Tasting Notes:
Nose:
Sweet vanilla toffee, a little lemon and
honey sponge cake.
Taste:
Rich. Delicious honeyed
almonds are joined by dark cherry, burnt
raisins, orange, chocolate, a little
zesty lemon, cinnamon and some fresh
apples in the mix also. Some lovely
sweet oak spices at play also
Finish:
Medium length finish with the fruit
fading leaving dark chocolate and some
sweet oak spice.
Comment:
The nose somewhat concealed the pleasure
to come in the mouth, a delicious fruit,
honey and almond mix complemented by the
18 years of oak influence on the spirit.
If the pleasure on the palate could have
carried on longer into the finish this
could have been a stunning whisky.
