Review of The GlenDronach 12 Year Old.
 With
the recent return of the 15 year old Revival I
thought I would revisit The GlenDronach
12 Year Old Original.
This superb richly sherried single malt
is matured for 12 years in a combination
of the finest Spanish Pedro Ximenez and
Oloroso sherry casks. Non-chill
filtered, of natural colour and bottled
at 43% ABV, it is priced around £40.

Morrison's Tasting Notes:
Nose:
Lovely enticing sherried fruit, dark
cherries. orange, also some ripe pear, a
nice touch of vanilla sweetness. Dark
chocolate ginger biscuit.
Taste:
A deliciously rich smooth delivery of
lovely sherried fruit - raisins and sultanas, orange, a light
sweet vanilla sweetness peaks through
from behind the lovely fruit and a
wee touch of cloves hiding there also,
nutmeg and then the appearance of
cinnamon and dry ginger and a light
dusting of pepper.
Finish:
A medium length finish were the fruit
fades quickly leaving a little peppery
spice and mildly drying oak.
Comment:
Delicious, this is simply one of the
best quality core range sherried
Speyside drams of this age that you can
buy, if you haven't yet tried this then
why not! A lovely well balanced dram for
the sherry oak lovers, full of flavour
and I guarantee if you like this style
of whisky, once you taste this you will
always want to have a bottle in the
cupboard. I could only imagine that this
would be simply stunning if bottled at a
slightly higher strength but at 43% it
is still full of flavour and an
outstanding dram. The finish could be
longer but easily remedied with another
mouthful.
