Kilchoman
expands with a new warehouse on Islay.
Kilchoman the independent Islay
distillery which first went into
production in 2005 has entered a new
chapter of its history with the
completion of a new storage warehouse.
Being one of the smallest distilleries
in Scotland with an annual production of
90,000 litres of alcohol it has managed
to date with the original storage
facilities but after over 8 years of
production more space was needed to meet
future demand and to store the
increasing maturing stock.
Kilchoman, who matures all their whisky
on Islay today announced that they have
now completed the construction of a new
warehouse to hold over ten thousand
casks. Located only a few miles away
from the distillery and visitor centre,
the 2400 metres-squared warehouse was
erected to satisfy the growing demand
for the well-received portfolio of
Kilchoman whiskies, which includes
Machir Bay, Loch Gorm and a new edition
of 100% Islay. The development is an
exciting landmark in the young
distillery’s history, which only
released its first single malt, 100%
Islay, in June 2011.
Anthony Wills, managing director of
Kilchoman, commented "The new warehouse
opens up a number of opportunities for
Kilchoman and to have reached this
milestone earlier than we had
anticipated is a great achievement for
us.
"We built the warehouse to utilise the
space we have at the distillery and
we’re looking forward to being able to
move Kilchoman into a new chapter of its
history."
