Glenfiddich
Distillery workers create a set of angel
wings made from whisky cask shavings,
their Christmas tribute to the Angels’
Share.
It
appears that the festive season brings
out the artistic side of the workers at
the Glenfiddich distillery, last
Christmas the Glenfiddich workers
created a ten feet high Christmas tree
which they made using 665 of the single
malt’s unique triangular green bottles.
This year the artistic bunch at the
Glenfiddich Distillery have made a
festive tribute to the ‘angel’s share’,
the whisky lost each year due to
evaporation.
Glenfiddich’s coopers and the curator of
the brand’s world-renowned Artists in
Residence programme, Andy Fairgrieve,
worked together to create a unique
artwork in the form of a special set of
angel wings featuring oak cask shavings
for feathers.
Andy Fairgrieve said: "Glenfiddich was
first distilled on Christmas Day 1887 by
William Grant and his family after a
year of hard work building the
distillery. Christmas Day marks a
special time for the distillery family
and each year we like to get into the
Christmas spirit. Last year, we created
a Christmas tree from Glenfiddich
bottles to mark our 125th anniversary.
This year, we wanted to do something
else to commemorate our rich history and
heritage.
"Every bottle of Glenfiddich, no matter
where you buy it in the world, was
distilled and matured onsite here in
Dufftown. As the whisky in our casks
matures over time, a tiny percentage is
lost due to evaporation. This is known
as the angel’s share. The wings are our
Christmas tribute to Dufftown’s lucky
angels."
Glenfiddich is one of the few single
malt whisky distilleries in Scotland
that remains family owned and on
Christmas Day, the fifth and sixth
generations of the Grant family will
raise a glass of the world’s most
awarded single malt Scotch whisky.
The specially created wings will be on
display in Glenfiddich’s Warehouse One
over the festive period. |
