Review of The Macallan Rare Cask by Murray Cohen.

According to The Macallan’s Master of Wood, Stuart MacPherson, The Macallan Rare Cask
Speyside single malt whisky is "the gateway
between the 1824 and 1824 Master
series."
It incorporated 16
different cask styles as well as
different cask suppliers. The
majority are first fill. Only 1% of
total stock holdings of The Macallan
went into production of this single
malt.
The Macallan Rare Cask was bottled at 43% ABV and is priced at Canadian $399.95 / UK £190 and is available for worldwide delivery from specialist online whisky shop
The Whisky Exchange.
Murray Cohen's Tasting Notes:
Colour: Mahogany
Nose: Voluminous, thick, heavy and robust sherry bursts catch your attention. Fresh brewed sweet mocha coffee melds with tobacco leaf reek in a positive way. The aromatic pipe tobacco of an old sailor wafts by as cantaloupe, mince pie and dark butterscotch follow.
Taste: Full bodied. Creamy, spice infiltrates softly with strata of chocolate malted milk, espresso crema and warming chocolate pudding.
Finish: Long, spice, mild tannin engrossed in layers of dark chocolate with the per cent of cocoa increasing exponentially with time.
Comment: The Rare Cask clearly turns any doubters to believers in this NAS expression. Here we have a magic carpet ride from start to finish. There is a depth to this whisky that both caresses and impresses.
