Review of Bowmore 25 Year Old by Murray Cohen.
As stated by Iain McCallum, Master of Malts for Morrison Bowmore Distillers, this one is
not what you would expect in a Bowmore.
This expression is a IWSC Gold Medal
winner. The Bowmore 25 is aged in American and
Spanish sherry casks.
The Bowmore 25 Year Old was bottled at 43% ABV and is priced at Canadian $389.95 / UK £287, it is available from specialist online whisky shop
The Whisky Exchange.
Murray Cohen's Tasting Notes:
Colour: Amber red.
Nose: Mellow from the get go. Fruitiness comes to the fore with delicious Angel food cake wrapped in Swiss chocolate. This puts a smile on your face.
Taste:
Full bodied. Sweet fruitcake is served with chocolate swirls. There is a smoky tenderness here with balanced flavors.
Finish: Long, chocolate mousse metamorphosing into pure chocolate essences resounding over time.
Comment: The 25 Year is not what you would expect in a Bowmore. It is not the earthy, peaty, smoky beast but rather a tuxedo clad dram with subtle aromas and flavors. A great summer dram.
