Review of Laphroaig 15 Year Old 200th Anniversary edition by Murray Cohen.
Iain McCallum, Master of Malts for Morrison Bowmore Distillers
used the metaphor for this whisky as
"a big hug in a glass". This edition
has been created in exactly the same
way as the original which was chosen
for the famous "Erskine Charity
Bottling" in 2000 when 270 bottles
were drawn from a single 15 Year
cask sighed by HRH The Prince of
Wales for this charity which he is a
patron.
The Laphroaig 15 Year Old 200th Anniversary was bottled at 43% ABV and is priced at Canadian $184.95 / UK £99.95 and is available from specialist online whisky shops such as
The Whisky Exchange.
Murray Cohen's Tasting Notes:
Colour: Sparkling gold.
Nose: Bonbons and perfume, potpourri and apricots. Pungent summer flowers snag you with subsequent peaches and cream and light appealing tobacco hues. Spontaneous baked salmon notes with sweet and smoky butter sauce takes it to another level.
Taste: Full bodied. Fruity, hint of demerara sugar, espresso crema and nectarines. There is a large portion of extra cherry fruit cocktail here with bursting intensity.
Finish: Long, sweet mocha, “fruit-a-licious” with perseverating kiwi in all its splendor.
Comment: Actually, this presents as a classy dessert dram with light and refreshing qualities. Much more delicate and delectable than expected; impresses all the way.
