Review of Bowmore Darkest 15 Year Old by Murray Cohen.
This Isle of Islay whisky spent 12
years in American Oak barrels and 3
years in Oloroso casks. This lady of
a malt is very dark in color.
The Bowmore Darkest 15 Year Old was bottled at 43% ABV and is priced at Canadian $93.40 / UK £53.95, it is available from specialist online whisky shop
The Whisky Exchange.
Murray Cohen's Tasting Notes:
Colour: Dark cherry amber.
Nose: A splash of honey dew melon, surging embers of a bonfire and lime peel. There are fireplace reminiscences, chalky peat, seaweed, Maritime salty hues and shades of creosote.
Taste: Full bodied. A nutty melange erupts into vanilla bean nougat. The Oloroso influence is in no doubt here.
Finish: Long, smoky, peaty and earthy. Alcohol-infused gingerbread is unmasked.
Comment: I tried a piece of dark chocolate with this one. Everything was enhanced in a wanted bitter and sweet flavor experience. A respectable dram which satisfies but it doesn’t shake the apple tree.
