Whisky Focus - Bowmore Darkest 15 Year Old Review By Murrsy Cohen

Bowmore Darkest 15 Year Old Review

29th January 2016

Review of Bowmore Darkest 15 Year Old by Murray Cohen.

Bowmore Darkest 15 Year Old ReviewThis Isle of Islay whisky spent 12 years in American Oak barrels and 3 years in Oloroso casks. This lady of a malt is very dark in color.

The Bowmore Darkest 15 Year Old was bottled at 43% ABV and is priced at Canadian $93.40 / UK £53.95, it is available from specialist online whisky shop The Whisky Exchange.

Murray Cohen's Tasting Notes:

Colour:  Dark cherry amber.

Nose:  A splash of honey dew melon, surging embers of a bonfire and lime peel. There are fireplace reminiscences, chalky peat, seaweed, Maritime salty hues and shades of creosote.

Taste: Full bodied. A nutty melange erupts into vanilla bean nougat. The Oloroso influence is in no doubt here.

Finish: Long, smoky, peaty and earthy. Alcohol-infused gingerbread is unmasked.

Comment: I tried a piece of dark chocolate with this one. Everything was enhanced in a wanted bitter and sweet flavor experience. A respectable dram which satisfies but it doesn’t shake the apple tree.

Score 84/100
