Review of Jameson The Blender's Dog from Jameson Whiskey Makers Series.

Jameson The Blender's Dog is one of a trio of premium blended whiskey's in Jameson's new  Whiskey Makers Series, a brand new range of super-premium Jameson whiskeys which celebrates the people behind Jameson, their craft and the tools they use to create Jameson.

The Blender’s Dog celebrates the role of Jameson Head Blender, Billy Leighton; a tribute to the fine art of blending. A master at matching whiskeys across ages and characters, Billy is tasked with uniting the crafts supplied by distiller and cooper to create harmonious, perfectly balanced whiskeys.

Billy’s go-to instrument – a ‘dog’ – is used to collect whiskey samples from the casks, allowing Billy to bring together complementary spirits from Midleton’s extensive range of maturing stock.

Jameson The Blender's Dog was bottled at 40% ABV and will be available from these specialist Whisky Shops with an RRP of £53.50/€70 or local equivalent for a 70cl bottle.


William Morrison's Tasting Notes:

Nose: The nose has a gentle richness, mild orange and dates, touch of vanilla.

Taste:  Delicious honeycomb sweetness coats the mouth, lovely gentle pot still spices, vanilla and delicate mature toasted oak.

Finish: A lovely long finish, the honeycomb sweetness slowly fades leaving some gentle mature oak spices and a little fruit, poached pear and orange.

Comment: A deliciously rich, sweet well constructed Irish blended whiskey. Whiskey is for pleasure and Irish blended whiskey's don't come much more pleasurable than this. There is no age statement but I sense this is a mature whiskey. I would guess that when Jameson Head Blender, Billy Leighton is tasked with creating a whiskey which will be a tribute to the art of blending Irish whiskey he will select only the best casks which he has to hand and that is exactly what he has appeared to have done with The Blender's Dog.
