Review of
Claxton's Dalswinton Series Highland 35
Year Old, A deliciously different,
mature, Oloroso sherry influenced
Highland Park, just what you want from
an independent bottling. It does have a
lovely, very gentle, thread of Highland
Park peat running through it, but it is
the age and quality sherry cask that
have made this an outstanding whisky.
Claxton's
Dalswinton Series Highland Park 35 Year Old is
one of five whiskies in Claxton's second
batch of releases in their Dalswinton
Series.
All the the whiskies in this release
have been distilled at a renowned
coastal Scotch whisky distillery, this
one was distilled at Highland Park on the
Orkney Islands and was matured for 35 years in a
Oloroso Sherry Cask before being bottled
at 43.2% ABV and only 100 bottles were
drawn from the cask.
Highland Park, the iconic Orcadian
distillery, is known for its distinctive
heather-infused smoky whiskies. This
Highland Park 35 Year Old cask is said
to be no exception, offering a rich,
malty, and spicy profile, complemented
by sweet heather smoke.
The decanter features the Landale
family's vision of the Dalswinton Estate
- In 1919, the Landale family purchased
the Dalswinton Estate and have been its
residents and stewards ever since. Over
the past century, they have transformed
the manor house, estate buildings, and
surrounding land into the prestigious
rural estate it is today.

Tasting Notes:
Nose: Enticing
creamy sweet vanilla with a wee bit of a
salted buttery edge, a touch of honey, a
little stewed apple and sweet raisin and
sultana, a distant gentle whiff of peat.
Taste: Delicious
barley sugars infused with a fruity mix
of melon, raisin and sultana, a
lovely wee touch of heather honey and
gentle oak spices, some late pepper,
lemon citrus and very gentle peat
complete the party.
Finish: A
deliciously long finish, sugar boosted
gentle sherry fruit lingers for a while
but is out done by the sweet oak and
spices which eventually fade to leave
just a touch of Highland Park peat to
have the last word.
Comment:
A deliciously different, mature, Oloroso
sherry influenced Highland Park, just
what you want from an independent
bottling. It does have a lovely, very
gentle, thread of Highland Park peat
