Review of Gordon &
MacPhail Rare Old Rosebank 1990 25 Year Old by Murray Cohen.
Gordon
& MacPhail Rare Old Rosebank 1990 25 Year Old was
distilled in 1990, matured in refill sherry hogshead
barrels and bottled at 46% ABV in 2015.
Many of the single malt whiskies in Gordon &
MacPhail's 'Rare Old' range will never be seen again
including this Rosebank 1990. It is from another
era, like other Lowland distilleries, Rosebank
operated a triple distillation process. It was
rebuilt in a modern form in the 1800s and comprised
of two ranges of buildings divided by a canal. The
distillery closed for ever in 1993.
Murray Cohen's Tasting Notes:
Colour:
Light gold.
Nose:
Initial caramel fireworks subsequently delivering
lovely flowery notes, long stem roses and waves of
enticing citrus including blood orange rind.
Taste:
Medium to full. This whisky expression explodes on
the palate with a three dimensional fruit blast that
you can savour. Super creamy with Montreal Orange
Julep foam and the awakening of chocolate malt
sweetness.
Finish:
Medium long. Look for the enhanced fruit cake with
cherry cream eruptions continuing the fireworks
motif.
Comment:
The sherry influence here is Picasso-like,
juxtaposing and emphasizing aroma and taste
elements.
SMW Score
95.5/100
