    Laphroaig Lore Review
Laphroaig Lore labelled "the richest of the rich". This really is a deliciously peaty powerful beast of a Laphroaig, Laphroaig as you expect it to be, Laphroaig as you want it to be, big powerful and bold. I can't confirm the ages of 7 to 21 years for the contributing whiskies in Lore but I can confirm that it is a very well put together mix of fiery youthful Laphroaig and some more tamed mature Laphroaig with a good helping of quality sherried Laphroaig.

House Of Hazelwood 18 Year Old Review
House of Hazelwood 18 year old is the entry level whisky in William Grant's new premium Scotch blended whisky range. A delicious mature blend with a fantastic nose. I am guessing its component parts of Kininvie and Girvan spent most of there 18 years maturing in refill Bourbon casks.

  • 24th March 2016

    Kilchoman Sanaig Review

    Ailsa Bay Review
Ailsa Bay is the first release from the new South Ayrshire distillery, it is
a deliciously sweet peaty Lowlander. This is a new generation of single malt which breaks the boundaries of regional style bringing Speyside and Islay together in its own unique Lowland way. The main theme is the sweet peaty smoke, everything else is hinted at making this an outstanding and complex dram.

Grant’s Elementary Copper 29 Year Old Review
Review of Grant's Elementary Copper 29 Year Old Scotch blended whisky. A lovely mature, complex Scotch blended whisky fit to rival any mature single malts. The grain whisky has its say first on the palate but not without a contribution from the malt whisky in the blend and after 29 years in a cask the oak has its say also.

  • 8th February 2016
Grant’s Elementary Oxygen 8 Year Old Review
Review of Grant's Elementary Oxygen 8 Year Old Scotch blended grain whisky.
No surprises, except for how good this is, this is a young blended grain whisky and a very good one. Exceptionally creamy smooth on the palate which fades slowly to leave some energetic young oak spices.

Grant’s Elementary Carbon 6 Year Old Review
Review of Grant's Elementary Carbon 6 Year Old Scotch blended whisky.
The lovely musty, almost smoky oak lingers but doesn't overpower as it is kept in check by the sweet vanilla and very delicate but persistent orange.

    Highland Park Dark Origins Review
Review of Highland Park Dark Origins. If this was Irish single malt, it would be a leprechauns’ promise unfulfilled. I was expecting more from this dram. A better balance from nose to finish would have achieved more. My detection of sulphur taint ruined my experience. This one needs a refit in my opinion.

  • 29th January 2016

Review of Highland Park 21 Year Old. A most enjoyable dram but does not rise to the level of the 25 or 30 year old. It seems like a distant cousin.

Bowmore Darkest 15 Year Old Review
Review of Bowmore Darkest 15 Year Old. I tried a piece of dark chocolate with this one. Everything was enhanced in a wanted bitter and sweet flavor experience. A respectable dram which satisfies but it doesn’t shake the apple tree.

    Bowmore 25 Year Old Review
Review of Bowmore 25 Year Old. The 25 Year is not what you would expect in a Bowmore. It is not the earthy, peaty, smoky beast but rather a tuxedo clad dram with subtle aromas and flavors. A great summer dram.

Gordon & MacPhail Speymalt Macallan 2006 Review
Review of Gordon & MacPhail Speymalt Macallan 2006. A smooth very mildly sherried dram with orange, vanilla and mild oak spice, just a wee touch of bitterness.
For the money this is a decent enough off the beaten track alternative to the original distillery bottlings for any Macallan fan.

The MacPhail's Collection Glenrothes 8 Year Old Review
Review of The MacPhail's Collection Glenrothes 8 Year Old. Sweet silky smooth delivery of mouth coating vanilla tablet and honey, the sweetness is soon balanced by the marmalade bitterness.
A decent enough example of what I expect from the Glenrothes distillery.
