    The Macallan Coronation
    To celebrate the 60th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth’s Coronation The Macallan is releasing a limited edition commemorative bottling or I should really say pair of bottlings. The Macallan Coronation is limited release which comprises of a beautifully designed box containing two 350ml bottles of single malt whisky. I fully expect that this unique pair of whiskies from The Macallan will become a rare collectors’ item with only 1953 pairs of bottles being released for sale in the UK.

    The Lagavulin and Caol Ila distilleries today revealed the whiskies which they will release during the 2013 Fèis Ìle (Islay Festival) which runs from 24th May to 1st June. This years festival bottlings are a Sherry Butt matured Lagavulin 18 year old and a Triple Cask matured Caol Ila.

    The Macallan 1824 Series
    The Macallan 1824 Series, is a new range of whiskies from The Macallan. The expressions in the new series are The Macallan Gold, The Macallan Amber, The Macallan Sienna and The Macallan Ruby. All four of the whiskies in the new Macallan 1824 Series were 100% sherry cask matured and showcase two of The Macallan whisky's greatest strengths; oak sherry casks and natural colour. This is what I think of the four new whiskies.

    Ardbeg Distillery Names Latest Whisky Ardbog
    Ardbeg Distillery has named its latest whisky Ardbog and the launch will take place at Islay Festival on “Ardbog Day” – 1st June 2013.
    Ardbog was matured for ten years in traditional American oak ex-bourbon barrels and rare ex-Spanish Manzanilla sherry butts. This gives Ardbog a distinctively salty texture accentuating the salty, briny flavours already prevalent in the whisky.

    Wild Turkey American Honey
    You have probably noticed the latest craze for honey flavoured whisky. It seems like more and more of the big whisky producers are adding honey, spice and all things nice to your favourite whiskies. It is not something I have looked but when the makers of Wild Turkey American bourbon told me they are introducing a honey-flavoured bourbon named Wild Turkey American Honey to the UK this month and asked me if I would like to try it, I thought why not.

    The Kilchoman Loch Gorm is the name for what will be an ongoing series of sherry cask matured whisky from Kilchoman. This first release of Kilchoman Loch Gorm in the series is a 5 year old whisky which has been matured in Oloroso sherry butts and finished in Oloroso sherry hogsheads for a further six weeks. After tasting it, I predict this will be a very popular expression when it comes of age.

    Talisker Port Ruighe
    It is very rare to see a new addition to the Talisker core range but let me introduce you to the 2nd new addition to the range this year. The Talisker Port Ruighe is a combination of spirit that has been matured in American Oak and European Oak refill casks in the traditional manner along with spirit that has been filled into specially conditioned deeply charred casks. The spirit is has then been finished in casks that have previously held Port Wine which endows it with spicy fruit notes.

    The Distell Group Buys Burn Stewart Distillers
    The Distell Group, Africa's leading spirits business has
    acquired Scotch whisky producer Burn Stewart Distillers Limited for just over £160 million. Burn Stewarts portfolio includes Scottish Leader, the pre-eminent Blended Scotch Whisky in its category in Taiwan. Others are the blended whisky Black Bottle as well as the single malts Bunnahabhain, Deanston, Tobermory and Ledaig.

    Diageo Announce New Highland Distillery At Teaninich
    Diageo, the the owner of 28 Scotch malt whisky distilleries has announced Teaninich near Alness in the Highlands as the location for its plans to build a new malt whisky distillery. At the same time Diageo, also plans to invest £12million in expanding the existing Highland distillery Teaninich. On top of this Diageo also announced a major investment in Speyside whisky production.

    Midleton Release 10 Exclusive Single Pot Still Single Cask Whiskeys
    Midleton Distillery has announced the release of not one but ten exclusive Single Pot Still Single Cask limited edition whiskeys.
    The individual casks, which were laid down between 1991 and 1999 have been bottled exclusively for whisky specialist shops in Ireland, France, Germany and the UK with each retailer offering their customers between one and three expressions which will be exclusive to the shop.

    New Zealand Prime Minister repatriates ‘Shackleton’s whisky’ to Antarctica
    Yesterday, (Saturday 20 January 2013 New Zealand time) New Zealand Prime Minister John Key returned 3 bottles of more than 100 year old whisky to the Antarctic Heritage Trust in Antarctica. The 3 bottles are from whisky crates excavated from under explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton’s only Antarctic expedition base by Trust conservators in 2010.
