Review of Gordon &
MacPhail Connoisseur’s Choice Arran 2006 by Murray Cohen.
Gordon & MacPhail Connoisseurs Choice
Arran 2006 was matured in 1st Fill Bourbon Barrels and bottled
in 2014 at 46% ABV.
The Gordon & MacPhail ‘Connoisseurs Choice’ range
was launched in the mid-1960s’. Until this time,
many of the whiskies the range featured would not
have been available as single malt. Today,
Connoisseurs Choice retains this exclusive nature
with a range of rare and sought after single malts
from distilleries throughout Scotland including this
Clynelish 2000 Speyside single malt whisky.
Murray Cohen's Tasting Notes:
Colour:
Light hay.
Nose:
Fruity sweet; here we have a citrus bouquet with a
pineapple garland, banana cream, candied fruit
especially apricots and fried plantains.
Taste:
Light, fruit cocktail, mild spice, rum and raisin
ice cream, buttermilk pancakes with an edge and
candied pears.
Finish:
Medium, the spice skips around espresso crema and
promotes the lingering sweetness.
Comment:
A most enjoyable 8 year old whisky. I heard someone
in the audience shout-out : "A training wheel
whisky" for new whisky drinkers. I agree that this
one would be great single malt for the new whisky
aficionado but it is also a little gem in its own
right for the more mature palate.
SMW Score
85.5/100
