Review of Gordon & MacPhail Connoisseurs Choice Clynelish 2000 by Murray Cohen.
Gordon & MacPhail Connoisseurs Choice
Clynelish 2000 was matured in Refill sherry casks and bottled
in 2015 at 46% ABV.
The Gordon & MacPhail ‘Connoisseurs Choice’ range
was launched in the mid-1960s’. Until this time,
many of the whiskies the range featured would not
have been available as single malt. Today,
Connoisseurs Choice retains this exclusive nature
with a range of rare and sought after single malts
from distilleries throughout Scotland including this
Clynelish 2000 Speyside single malt whisky.
Murray Cohen's Tasting Notes:
Colour:
Dark gold.
Nose:
Apple varieties galore impress with cycling
sweetness. Cologne, lilacs, a pungent honey-citrus
melange including peels evoke the old days where
scents were sought after to soothe the senses for
pleasure in their own right.
Taste:
Medium to full bodied, chewy and syrupy. Dark
over-ripened sweet plums land on the palate with a
delightful thud.
Finish:
Long, the perseverating dark rich plums coalesce
with the rising aftertaste generated by folks
stomping grapes and the airborne infusion into the
mouth that follows.
Comment:
Quite a delightful dram with a deep aroma and taste
profile.
