Gordon & MacPhail Glen Grant 1952 ReviewGordon & MacPhail Rare Vintage Glen Grant 1952 was matured in 1st Fill Sherry and refill Sherry butt for a remarkable 59 years and 11 months before being bottled at 40% ABV.

In partnership with each respective distillery, all whiskies in Gordon & MacPhail's Rare Vintage range are uniquely labelled. In years gone by many of these unique designs were used ‘officially’ to bottle the whisky under licence from the distillery. Today these trusted relationships with distillers enables Gordon & MacPhail to bottle exclusive vintages of single malt at various strengths – all with their unique distillery label.

Murray Cohen's Tasting Notes:

Colour:  Apricot gold.

Nose:  An intense holographic-like basket of assorted apples, pears and apricots fills the air with aged butterscotch yielding a mature, thick long-lasting sweetness with a magnificent generalized fruity halo.

Taste: Medium to full-bodied. Marvellous thick apricot marmalade and citrus jam with splatters of clover honey; the spice hiding in the sweet layers.

Finish: Long, the smoothness entices with staccato spikes of spice while the fruity compote seeks infinity.

Comment: This whisky just shy of 60 years old provides a pervasive aura of satisfaction that required almost a lifetime to establish, a mellow beauty of aromas and flavours that that fixes its place in whisky lore. This single malt expression is like a fine masterpiece by Mozart perhaps The Magic Flute with aromatic symbolism of growth and fulfilment and a finish that conquers all.

SMW Score 97.5/100
