Review of Oban 14 Year Old by Murray Cohen.
One of Diageo's six Classic Malts, the Oban 14 year old comes from the West Highland region of Scotland.
Bottled at 43% ABV, the sweet west coast malt has never quite achieved the acclaim the other classic malts have received.
Murray Cohen's Tasting Notes:
Colour: Rusty gold.
Nose: Very little for the longest time and then subtle fruit and a light citrus edge. Some floral awakening after a long delay.
Taste: Light-bodied, drying, a bit oaky with a tinge of vanilla extract and late orange julep.
Finish: Short with faint traces of dark chocolate and a mild astringent quality with not much in the epilogue other than some residual sweetness.
Comment: This whisky just doesn’t impress me all the way through. It strikes me as a rather basic single malt which lacks the character I have grown used to in an above-average whisky.
Score 79.5/100
