Review of Glen Garioch 15 Year Old by Murray Cohen.
The Glen Garioch 15 year old East Highland malt was sadly discontinued a few years back when Glen Garioch reduced the size or their core range in favour of a Vintages range. Packaged in old fashioned traditional tartan tube complete with Scottish stag this was a popular whisky which can still be found in specialist whisky retailers.
Bottled at 43% ABV this is a dearly departed and I am sure missed whisky.
Murray Cohen's Tasting Notes:
Colour: Amber.
Nose: Instant smokehouse hues and fireplace reminiscences impress with adorning peat fixtures, Kalamata olive juice, peach fuzz, Australian black licorice, butterscotch and essence of a working coal mine.
Taste: Sweetness pervades with cherries jubilee and a blast of marshmallow, smooth and creamy. Medium to full-bodied.
Finish: Long, sweet n’ spicy; the marshmallow now roasted at the camp fire.
Comment: A tale of two cities between nose and palate yielding a very satisfying if not dramatic dram.
