Review of Grant's Elementary Oxygen 8 Year Old Scotch Blended Grain Whisky.
Grant's Elementary Oxygen 8 year old is one of three new whiskies in the new travel retail exclusive Grant's Elementary Scotch whisky range.
William Grant & Sons has created the range to highlight the scientific elements involved in the traditional whisky making process and to demonstrate the influence each scientific element has on the final flavour of the whisky. Each blend explores the impact of its stated element on our whisky, and its age statement relates to its position in the Periodic Table of Elements.
Oxygen differs from the other whiskies in the range in that it is a Scotch Blended Grain whisky, no single malts in this blend. Oxygen as I am sure you will all recall from your school chemistry lessons, is the 8th element, it is lifted carefully from the spirit during William Grant's unique vacuum distillation process at their Girvan grain distillery. In an oxygen deficient environment, distillation can occur at a lower temperature, producing a crisp, sweetened flavour profile. William Grant say that it is the oxygen, or lack of, that gives this grain whisky its silky smoothness.
Grant's Elementary Oxygen 8 year old was matured for at least eight years in ex-Bourbon American oak casks. Bottled at 40% ABV in a 1 litre bottle, 20cl bottle and 5cl test tubes, it is currently available from Paris Charles de Gaulle, Paris Orly and Nice airports.
If you have no travel plans in the near future don't worry you will find the current William Grant's whisky range including the exceptionally smooth Girvan Single Grain whisky range available for worldwide delivery from specialist whisky shops such as
