Review of
BenRiach The Smoky Twelve 12 Year Old.
BenRiach
The Smoky Twelve 12 Year Old is the new
peated 12 year old offering in the
recently revamped BenRiach core range.
Matured in an unconventional mix of
three types of cask - bourbon, sherry
and Marsala which should give the peated
spirit a fruity influence.
The
BenRiach The Smoky 12 is bottled at 46% ABV and has a
RRP of £48
William
Morrison's Tasting Notes:
Nose:
Light honeyed peat smoke, a little
vanilla and some orange zest, just a
touch of sweet peppery spice.
Taste:
Sweet pear and raisin and some bitter
orange infused with sweet peppery peat
smoke, sweet oak spiced honey and a
little vanilla milk chocolate covered
fudge.
Finish:
Peppery, orange and some lingering
sweet peat.
Comment:
In comparison to the 'The Smoky Ten'
there is a better more enticing nose on
the The Smoky Ten, but on the palate
this is almost as much a pleasure but it
doesn't hang around as long on the
finish, still a quality dram but if I
had to choose between The Smoky Ten and
The Smoky Twelve' for me the Ten pips it
but both are quality drams.
