Review of
MacNair's Lum Reek Peated blended malt
whisky.
MacNair's
Lum Reek Peated is the no age statement
entry whisky in the Lum Reek range, a
peated blended malt Scotch whisky which
has been created by folks behind the
GlenAllachie distillery, namely Master
Distiller Billy Walker.
To create the whisky Billy has used a
combination of whiskies matured in first
fill Bourbon, Oloroso, Virgin Oak and
Red Wine casks.
Bottled at 46% ABV, non chill filtered
and naturally coloured, the spirit was
first matured at GlenAllachie distillery
before the final cask vatting was
blended by Billy.
William
Morrison's Tasting Notes:
Nose:
Light vanilla with a fresh gentle
peat infusion and a little barley sugar
sweetness.
Taste:
The creamy vanilla infused peat
which was announced by the nose leads,
followed by some tongue tingling sweet
oak spices and and a little dark berry
fruitiness.
Finish:
The dark fruit and barley sugar
sweetness bows out first to leave some
gentle lingering peat, oak spices and a
little nuttiness.
Comment:
A lovely balance of a gentle Speyside
and Islay style.
SMW Blend
Malt Score 80/100
