Review of
MacNair's Lum Reek Peated 12 Year Old
blended malt whisky.
MacNair's
Lum Reek Peated 12 Year Old s a
combination of whiskies from first fill
Bourbon, Red Wine and Pedro Ximenez
casks which were blended together to
produce this smoky malt.
The Lum Reek 12 year old is non chill filtered,
naturally coloured and bottled at 48% ABV.
In creating the MacNair's Lum Reek
blended malt whisky range, Billy Walker,
now of the GlenAllachie distillery but you may recognise
him as the man who
developed the BenRiach, GlenDronach and
Glenglassaugh Distilleries into what
they are today before selling them on
and purchasing GlenAllachie, has said to have
recreated the peated whiskies of 100
years ago for the modern-day palette.
William
Morrison's Tasting Notes:
Nose:
Toffee infused with gentle sweet peat
and a wee touch of coffee and some
raisin lurking in the background.
Taste:
The toffee from the nose leads with more
sweet peat than I was expecting, a touch
of honey and some sweet spices
Finish:
The peat bows out quickly but leaves
some gentle sweet spice and some late
green apple.
Comment:
A little peatier than expected on the
palate after nosing it but the peat
doesn't hang around for long on the
finish.
SMW Score
81/100
