Review of
MacNair's Lum Reek Peated 21 Year Old
blended malt whisky.
 Sitting
at the top of the Lum Reek blended malt
whisky range is MacNair's
Lum Reek Peated 21 Year Old, a blend
of some undisclosed Islay and Speyside
peated malts combined with GlenAllachie
as you would expect as it is from the
folks behind the GlenAllachie
distillery.
The Lum Reek 21 year old was aged in a
combination of Oloroso, Virgin Oak and
Red Wine casks. Non chill filtered,
natural colour and bottled at 48% ABV.
In creating the MacNair's Lum Reek
blended malt whisky range, Billy Walker,
who you may recognise as the man who
developed the BenRiach, GlenDronach and
Glenglassaugh Distilleries into what
they are today, has said to have
recreated the peated whiskies of 100
years ago for the modern-day palette.

Morrison's Tasting Notes:
Nose:
A little raisin, pear and sweet vanilla
toffee with a dusting of gentle peat
smoke, a touch of honey and some distant
pepper and dark chocolate.
Taste:
Gentle sweet peat coats the mouth and
spicy toffee, honeyed, a gentle sherried
fruitiness, some lovely dark chocolate
keeping the oaky sugars in check.
Finish:
Medium to long finish, the dark
chocolate hangs in there for a while,
the sweet peat becomes a little more
ashy before bowing out leaving slightly
drying tobacco notes.
Comment:
A lovely balance of sweet peat, dark
chocolate and a very light sherried
fruitiness from nose to finish.
