Review of Gordon & MacPhail Connoisseurs Choice Ledaig 1999
Gordon & MacPhail Connoisseurs Choice Ledaig 1999 was matured in Refill remade Hogshead casks and bottled on the 24th March 2015 at 46% ABV.
The Gordon & MacPhail ‘Connoisseurs Choice’ range was launched in the mid-1960s’. Until this time, many of the whiskies the range featured would not have been available as single malt. Today, Connoisseurs Choice retains this exclusive nature with a range of rare and sought after single malts from distilleries throughout Scotland including this Ledaig 1999 Island single malt whisky.
William
Morrison's Tasting Notes:
Nose: Lemon and vanilla and a mild sweet peatiness.
Taste:
A lovely balance of mildly salted butter and a creamy peated vanilla sweetness. A touch of lemon and a little peppery spice.
Finish:
Medium length. Zesty peat coated lemon fades leaving a touch of mildly drying oak.
Comment:
The choice of casks has made this quite different to the original distillery bottling offerings as independent bottlings should be. The peat has been tamed a little in the years it has spent in the cask which you expect, this a good example of this peaty dram from the Tobermory distillery.
